Samson is a playable unit who can be recruited in Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Tsurugi, Monshou no Nazo and Shadow Dragon.

Background

Book One

Samson once was a gladiator and swordfighter of great renown. However, he cast that life aside for unknown reasons to live in a small Altean village. In Chapter 16 (13 SNES), he could be recruited into Marth's army if he visited the village. However, only he or Arran could be recruited during that chapter as the two lived in rivaling villages, and after one of the two villages was visited the other would close its gates to Marth out of spite. After the war ended, Samson continued to work as a mercenary, but only for those who lived up to his standards.

Book Two

Three years later, Samson was working for Sheema, the new ruler of Gra. He was somewhat attached to her and though he knew she was being used by Hardin, he was determined to stay by her side in her last hour. Sheema no longer had money to pay him with, but Samson stayed with her due to the feeling that this was something he had to do, as well as due to his hopes that Marth could change the mind of her people. After Sheema was recruited to Marth's army, Samson was prepared to leave due to seeing no more need for him anymore with the army to protect her. However, Sheema changed his mind by telling him that she needed him, at which point he agreed to protect her wherever they went.

After the War of Heroes ended, Samson and Sheema both became citizens of Pales, although the nature of their relationship was never specified.

Trivia

• In Monshou no Nazo, he receives a Support Bonus from Sheema, and in Shadow Dragon he receieves Support Bonuses from Marth.
• Even though only Arran or Samson can be recruited in Ankoku Ryuu and its remakes, Book Two of Monsho no Nazo seems to imply that both were part of Marth's army during the War of Darkness.
