Shelgon is an armored dragon Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the evolved form of Bagon and evolves into Salamence.
Information[edit]
Bagon evolves into Shelgon at Level 30. Shelgon has an armored shell body that is covered with bone-like outgrowths. Within its shell, Shelgon's cells are constantly changing to create an entirely new body, that of a Salemence. The armor is tough enough to repel most enemy attacks, but it also makes Shelgon heavy and somewhat sluggish. Shelgon usually hide away in caverns while awaiting evolution and endures hunger to become hardier. Shelgon's shell peels off at the moment it begins to evolve.
Shelgon evolves into Salamence at Level 50.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
Shelgon has usually not been found in the wild and usually can only be obtained by evolving a Bagon. In Pokémon: HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions, it could appear at the Safari Zone's Wetland area if enough Rock objects were present.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, Shelgon could be found at the Cave. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Endless Level 59, Endless Level 61, Forever Level 9 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the first six floors of Mt. Freeze, the sixty-fifth through sixty-ninth floors of Wish Cave, the ninth through sixteenth floors of Wyvern Hill and the sixtieth through sixty-forth floors of Joyous Tower. In Pokémon Ranger, it was found at the Jungle Relic during the Destruction Test. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, it was recruitable at Sky Stairway. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Volcano Cave. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs. Shelgon appeared at Faldera Volcano and the Dark Temple.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, one episode of the Hoenn series ended with a Bagon belonging to a trainer named Michelle evolving into a Shelgon. This brought the Bagon one step closer to its dream of flying as a Salamence. Shelgon was also featured as one of Drake's Pokémon in another episode, and it was notably able to defeat Ash's beloved Pikachu.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Shelgon was the only Pokémon of Drake's to be shown during the Ruby/Sapphire arc. He only used it to find Regirock, but it was also seen by his side in other scenes.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a simple combination of "shell" (due to its shelled bodies) and "dragon" (which is what its other forms resemble).
