Smoochum is a small sensitive-lipped Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It was introduced as the baby form of Jynx.
Information[edit]
Smoochum's lips are the most sensitive parts of its body, and it always uses its lips first to examine things. Its lips remember everything that it likes and dislikes. They often rock their heads back and forth as if trying to kiss someone. Smoochum actively runs around, although it falls down sometimes. It checks its reflection in lakes at any chance to ensure that its face is not dirty.
Smoochum evolves into Jynx at Level 30.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
Smoochum are rare sights in the wild and usually could only be obtained by hatching one from a Jynx egg. In Pokémon: Crystal Version, the Daycare Couple on Route 34 entrusts the player with an egg that has an equal chance of hatching as Smoochum or as any of the other baby Pokémon of the second generation. Smoochum could be also caught at the Amity Cave and Dim Meadow courses of the Pokéwalker, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold and SoulSilver.
In Diamond and Pearl, Smoochum appeared at Lake Acuity during swarms. In Platinum, they instead appeared uncommonly at Snowpoint Temple under normal conditions.
Other Games[edit]
Smoochum was featured in the e-Reader short "Gotcha!" in which it was chased by either a Pikachu or an Elekid, either of which wound up being chased in turn by a Jynx. In Pokémon Channel, Smoochum was given to the player by Professor Oak and ran the "Smoochum Shape Up" exercise channel. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Secret Storage 9, Secret Storage 20, Endless Level 6 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, Smoochum could be recruited at the twenty-first through twenty-fifth floors of Joyous Tower, and in Explorers of Time and Darkness it could be recruited at Blizzard Island, Crevice Cave, Lower Crevice Cave and Mt. Avalanche. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it was found at Mt. Sorbet and and the Ice Temple. Smoochum also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Iceberg Zone.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Smoochum was first shown as a friend of the Pichu Bros. in one of the Pichu Bros. short. One episode of the Johto series featured an action star who had a Smoochum whom he treated in a very cutesy manner. His agent was worried that it would ruin his reputation, but in the end it wound up enhancing it when the actor saved Smoochum from Team Rocket in the manner of a true action hero. One Battle Frontier episode later featured the group trying to find a Smoochum that had been lost by the three Jynx sisters who were raising it. It had fallen into the hands of Jessie of Team Rocket until the saved it. Smoochum have also made several other minor appearances throughout the series, and Jessie temporarily used one during a Sinnoh episode.
- In the Pokémon Adventure manga, Smoochum was first shown in the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc during a breakout of baby Pokémon from the daycare center. A Smoochum was also part of Crystal's team when she first appeared, although she initially sent it away in favor of Chikorita when she got it. It was later shown to be Crystal's first Pokémon as a child.
