Star Fox 64 is a space shooter game for the Nintendo 64 that acts as the second game in the Star Fox series. It was popular because of it's 3D graphics and rail-shooter action.

Story[edit]

Strange activity has been detected on the planet Venom, where Andross is imprisoned. Corneria sends Star Fox team to investigate. At the time, the group is made up of James McCloud, Peppy Hare, and Pigma Dengar. Pigma betrays the others, allowing Andross to capture them. Peppy escapes; James doesn't.

Some time later, a disturbance is detected again. A new Star Fox team made up of Fox McCloud, Slippy Toad, Falco Lombardi, and Peppy Hare investigate. The team fights their way to Venom, defeating their rivals, Team Star Wolf, and defeat Andross. They are offered positions in the Cornerian army, but decline the offer.

Gameplay[edit]

The gameplay of Star Fox 64 remains much the same as it was in Star Fox. The game is still a rail shooter.

One of the new features was the way the player progressed through the game. Instead of simply choosing the path they wanted, players were given a different path depending on whether the accomplished certain objectives or not.

Another new feature was medals awarding for getting through a level with your wing mates undamaged and getting a certain amount of hits.

In addition to changes in Single Player, a multiplayer mode was added. In multiplayer, players engaged in dogfights and tried to shoot down their opponent. The Landmaster Tank and the ability to fight on foot were unlockable.

Legacy[edit]

Star Fox 64 was the first game to feature Team Star Wolf. It was also the first game to use the Nintendo 64's Rumble Pak and redefined many of the gameplay elements of the series that would be carried on in later installments.

Ports and Remakes[edit]

Sequels[edit]

The next game in the Star Fox series was Star Fox Adventures for the Gamecube.
