The S.S. Dolphin
The S.S. Dolphin is Captain Olimar's trusty ship in Pikmin, though it is apparently owned by the company he works for, Hocotate Freight.
Information[edit]
In Pikmin, it is struck by an asteroid while Olimar is returning from vacation and crashlands on the Pikmin planet, shedding thirty of its parts in the process. After discovering the Main Engine near the crash site, Olimar can use the Dolphin to fly into the atmosphere when night approaches, as it is too risky to stay on the planet with all of the noctural creatures wandering about. He can also return to the Dolphin at any time during the day to fix his space suit if he's taken damage.
To successfully escape from the planet, Olimar must collect at least 25 of the Dolphin's missing parts. At various part counts, the Dolphin will be able to access new areas on the planet. After finding one part (the Main Engine) the Dolphin can go to the Forest of Hope, then after finding four more it can go to the Forest Navel, and seven more after that (12 total) will allow it to reach the Distant Spring. Only by finding 29 parts can it go to the Final Trial, where the last part is found.
Unfortunately, the Dolphin is sold by the President at the beginning of Pikmin 2 to attempt to pay off Hocotate Freight's massive debt. It is then replaced by the artificially intelligent, two-seater ship. Whether or not Olimar plans to reclaim the Dolphin (especially considering that two of its parts are presents from his children) with the leftover treasure remains to be seen.
Parts[edit]
The Impact Site[edit]
- The Main Engine is the first of two parts found at the Impact Site. It is a necessary ship part and requires 20 Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: Amazing! There's no mistaking it! My ship's engine rests before my very eyes! By a stroke of pure luck, I have already stumbled upon the most important piece of my damaged craft! Fate has smiled upon me! But... how will I get it back to the Dolphin?
- Second Note: It was pure luck that I found this piece first. With this I can at least lift off!
- Third Note: Oh, glorious! With the help of these Pikmin, I've taken a huge step back toward home. My ship can once again lift off!
- The Positron Generator is the second part found at the Impact Site, trapped within a Pearly Clamclamp. It is a necessary ship part and requires 20 Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: By combining batteries with solar cells, this machine can generate incredible amounts of electricity. What a timely find! Those Instant Space Noodles will taste better heated up.
- Second Note: This electric generator is so powerful that if you approach it carelessly, you'll get an electric shock!
The Forest of Hope[edit]
- The Eternal Fuel Dynamo is found at the Forest of Hope just south of the landing site. It is a necessary ship part and requires 40 Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: It has an unlimited energy supply! I won't have to worry about saving electricty anymore! This will make my fight for survival a bit easier...
- Second Note: This should light things up. No more candles for me!
- The Whimsical Radar is found at the Forest of Hope. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note:
- Second Note:
- The Extraordinary Bolt is found at the Forest of Hope. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.

- The Nova Blaster is found at the Forest of Hope. It is an unnecessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note:
- Second Note:
- The Shock Absorber is found at the Forest of Hope. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note:
- Second Note:
- The Radiation Canopy is found at the Forest of Hope. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note:
- Second Note:
- The Geiger Counter is found at the Forest of Hope. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: Every spaceship needs one of these, but I don't actually know what it's for. Every once in a while, it goes wild and lets out a lot of noise, but I never pay much attention to it, so it doesn't do me much good. I really should read that manual one of these days!
- Second Note:
- The Sagittarius is found at the Forest of Hope. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note:

[edit]
- The #1 Ionium Jet is found at the Forest Navel. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: It's easy on the eyes, and it's fuel efficiency is easy on the budget.
- Second Note:
- The Gravity Jumper is found at the Forest Navel. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: By manipulating the forces of gravity, this key component gives me the final boost I need to make the jump to super light speed. Good thing I found it.
- Second Note:
- The Automatic Gear is found at the Forest Navel. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note:
- Second Note:
- The Space Float is found at the Forest Navel. It is an unnecessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note:
- Second Note:
- The Non-Dioxin is found at the Forest Navel. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note:
- Second Note:
- The Libra is found at the Forest Navel. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: My daughter give this to me. It's named after her astrological sign. My sweet little girl... I wonder what she's doing right this moment...
- Second Note:
- The Analog Computer is found at the Forest Navel. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: This computer conveys the kind of vague data that falls outside the range of ones and zeros. Actually, to be honest, it's a little bit too vague, so it isn't very helpful.
- Second Note:
- The Omega Stabilizer is found at the Forest Navel. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: I absolutely must have this piece if my battered ship is ever to fly straight again. It has steered me through countless deep space storms. That, and it rather looks cool.
- Second Note:
- The Guard Satellite is found at the Forest Navel. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note:

The Distant Spring[edit]
- The Repair-Type Bolt is found at the Distant Spring. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: This Robotic Marcel can fix just about anything in the ship that’ broken. That’s good, because I get bored fixing little glitches.
- Second Note:
- The Massage Machine is found at the Distant Spring. It is an unnecessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: Put this right down in the lower back area and let it go to work. I can’t wait to get it installed again, as my lumbar regions has been paining me since the crash. Ahh, sweet relief...
- Second Note:
- The Interstellar Radio is found at the Distant Spring. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: Not only does it emit a constant S.O.S. signal, it also broadcasts voices from space that will brighten up my moments of boredom. The Dolphin, while comfortable, becomes quite a lonely place in the depths of night...
- Second Note:
- The Gluon Drive is found at the Distant Spring. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: Using the quark-binding metaphysical properties of the gluons, this device... Well, it’s very scientific, and I don’t full understand it myself, but it was very expensive...
- Second Note:
- The UV Lamp is found at the Distant Spring. It is an unnecessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: The only problem with this handheld light is that it can be too bright at times. I have to remember to wear my sun visor whenever I look into it.
- Second Note:
- The UV Lamp was originally going to appear in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga as one of the accessories given at the Starbeans Cafe (Olimar was going to present it instead of E. Gadd), but it was replaced with the Cobalt Necktie when Olimar was removed.
- The Zirconium Rotor is found at the Distant Spring. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: This is made from rust-proof zirconium, which is particularly suited to making spaceship parts. I had to pay a lot extra to have this installed, and I suspect the mechanic overcharged me.
- Second Note:
- The Pilot's Seat is found at the Distant Spring. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: Once I get this installed, my cockpit will finally be back in order. Soon my ship ill be starting to look more and more like the Dolphin of old. Ah, the memories...
- Second Note:
- The Bowsprit is found at the Distant Spring. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note: With this piece installed, my ship should regain some of its sleek shape.
- Second Note:
- The Chronos Reactor is found at the Distant Spring. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.
- First Note:
- Second Note:
- The #2 Ionium Jet is found at the Distant Spring. It is a necessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.

The Final Trial[edit]
- The Secret Safe is the lone ship part found at the Final Trial. It is an unnecessary ship part and requires Pikmin to carry.

Trivia[edit]
- The Dolphin gets its name from the codename for the Nintendo Gamecube, also being "Dolphin."
