First introduced in [[Pokémon: Red, Green and Blue Versions|Pokémon: Red and Blue]], Bulbasaur was one of four starter Pokémon offered by [[Professor Oak]] to the [[Red|Player]]. However if the player picked [[Squirtle]], then the [[Blue|Rival]] would end up with Bulbasaur instead. It evolves into [[Ivysaur]] at Level 16 and later into [[Venusaur]] at Level 32, which means it evolves the fastest of the three starters in Generation I.<br><br>Despite being a Plant type Pokémon, it has a reptilian appearance and draws most of its plant-like behavior from the strange seed that is planted on its back at birth. The bulb provides it nutrients by absorbing energy from the sun and grows as the Bulbasaur grows. Though Bulbasaur is capable of walking solely on its hind legs, it becomes a pure quadruped after its first evolution. Its evolution, Ivysaur, is playable as a three-Pokémon team in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]''.
