Background
Kieran was an overly passionate knight of Crimea who eventually became leader of Crimea's fifth platoon. He committed himself to rigorous training which often resulting in great self injury, although Kieran found himself oblivious to such pain. He often bragged about his many apparent feats and enjoyed both honor and glory. Early on, he declared Oscar to be his greatest rival after Oscar beat him in a race during their second year of enlistment, but the rivalry was one-sided as Oscar was mostly indifferent to the matter. Kieran intensified his training in hopes of overcoming Oscar, which led to him not noticing that Oscar had been discharged from the Crimean army until six months later.
Three years later, Kieran received a very important mission (which naturally excited him) when his platoon was assigned to protect Princess Elincia under the command of General Geoffrey during Daein's invasion of Crimea. However, they were separated from the princess during a battle with Daein soldiers. Kieran himself was captured during the battle, but he found that Geoffrey and some others were able to escape. Kieran was imprisoned in Canteus Castle until "Chapter 10: Prisoner Release" when Ike and his mercenaries freed the Crimean prisoners of war. Kieran was reunited with both Oscar and the princess at this time. Kieran then joined with Ike's group of mercenaries, which later banded into the Crimean Liberation Army, to fight in the war against Daein. After the war was over, Kieran saluted Ike and cheered for him due to his service as general.
Over the next three years, Kieran became second-in-command of the Crimean Royal Knights under Geoffrey. He was first seen going into action under Geoffrey in "Chapter 3: Geoffrey's Charge" of "Part 2: Of Countries and Kings" in Radiant Dawn. In that chapter's base conversation, Geoffrey gave him a Silver Axe which Kieran immediately treasured, but Geoffrey had to convince him to use it in battle as Kieran wanted to keep the gift safe as a trophy.
Kieran then joined in all other chapters featuring Geoffrey and the Royal Knights until they were sent over to join with the Laguz Alliance Army forces in "Chapter 11: Just Cause" of "Part 3: Intersecting Vows". At this point, Kieran was reunited with Oscar in the "Rivals" Base Conversation. Oscar attempted to give Kieran an Imbue scroll that would help to protect Kieran from his self destructive training. Kieran refused until Oscar got him to accept it by saying that accepting the gift would confirm Kieran as Oscar's lifelong rival, at which point Kieran eagerly accepted it.
Following the end of the wars, it was mentioned that Kieran continued to serve the royal family with his fanatical nerve, and his voice could be heard anywhere in the castle. Additionally, Oscar returned to the Royal Knights so Kieran was working with his rival once more.
Support Conversation Summaries
In Path of Radiance, Kieran is capable of having Support conversations with three other characters.
- Marcia- Seeing the advantages of training against a pegasus-mounted unit, Kieran introduces himself to Marcia, but he finds she already knows his name. He assumes her heard his name from one of his supposedly famous adventures and begins guessing which of his battles she knew his name from, but she then admits she knows because he declares it every time they go into battle. By then Kieran had forgotten what he intended to ask Marcia, and she leaves. In the next conversation, Kieran thanks Marcia after she had helped Kieran's horse recover from an illness. He promises to return the favor, and at the same time he once again forgets what he had intended to ask Marcia. In the final conversation, Kieran decides to clean his horse, and Marcia is surprised to find that he sees his horse as his brother-in-arms rather than as a source of transportation, and Marcia finds it admirable, but Kieran dismisses this by saying it is simple common sense. Kieran then begins to go into one of his long-winded battle stories, so Marcia excuses herself.
- Oscar- Oscar politely greets Kieran, but Kieran is too angry at Oscar, remembering how Oscar won a race in their second year of enlistment, which resulted in Kieran declaring Oscar his arch rival. Kieran recalls it as a close race, but Oscar remembers having a much clearer lead. This only increases Kieran's anger, and he says he became so devoted to training hard and overcoming Oscar that he did not know Oscar had gone until six months later. In the second conversation, Kieran pressures Oscar to rejoin the Crimean knights, desperate to have his arch rival nearby again, but Oscar refuses and says he is happy with the Greil Mercenaries. In the final conversation Oscar tells Kieran why he prefers being a mercenary to being a Crimean knight. This reasoning causes Kieran to admit defeat to Oscar once again, but Oscar says that there are also many things Crimean knights can do that mercenaries cannot, so they should both to their best since they aspired to the same ideal. Kieran promises to make his accomplishments legend, and Oscar promises to toast his success afterwards.
- Rhys- Rhys is disturbed to see Kieran bleeding and learns that Kieran often hurts himself accidentally during training and doesn't notice, no matter how large the gash. Kieran describes his harsh training regimen, but that makes Rhys lightheaded. In the second conversation, Rhys decided to watch Kieran train in order to heal him in case of another accident, but Kieran makes the mistake of juggling weapons. In the final conversation, Rhys convinces Kieran to stop his dangerous training by telling Kieran that if he accidentally died in training, he'd be remembered for dying during his training rather than his more proud feats. Kieran agrees to take it easier, but he then forgets the advice when he spots a bear and decides to approach it.
Kieran also has Support bonuses with Geoffrey (the first increases Kieran's chances of delivering a critical hit when Geoffrey is nearby, and vice versa, while the second protects Kieran from enemy critical hits when Geoffrey is nearby) and Elincia (which protects Kieran from enemy critical attacks when Elincia is nearby).
In Radiant Dawn, Kieran has an automatic Bond Support with Geoffrey.
