Skiploom is a floating flower-headed Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It is the middle stage of Hoppip's evolutionary line and evolves into Jumpluff.

Information

Skiploom evolves from Hoppip at Level 18. It notably has a flower on its head which blooms which the temperature rises above 64 degrees Fahrenheit. How much the flower opens depends on the temperature, so this Pokémon is often used as a thermometer. They spread their petals to absorb sunlight and usually float into the air to get closer to the sun. When it rains, Skiploom closes its bloom and will seek shelter in the shade of a tree to keep from getting wet.

It evolves into Jumpluff at Level 27.

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Skiploom was rarely found at Route 14, and it also appeared at the Safari Zone's Meadow area in HeartGold/SoulSilver. Skiploom was only found during the morning and daytime in this generation.

In Diamond and Pearl, Hoppip could be found by using the Pokéradar at Route 205's northern area in Diamond or at Fuego Ironworks in Pearl.

Other Games

In Pokémon Colosseum, a Shadow Skiploom could be snagged from Rider Leba at Pyrite Town, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Trozei!, Skiploom could be found at Secret Storage 10, Secret Storage 20, Endless Level 2 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the first three floors of Grand Canyon, the fifteenth through twentieth floors of Pitfall Valley, the forty-second through forty-sixth floors of Joyous Tower and the fifteenth through twentieth basement floors of Remains Island. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, Skiploom was found at the first eleven floors of Foggy Forest and the first five floors of Lush Prairie. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it was found at Latolato Trail. Skiploom also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Flower Zone.

• In the Pokémon anime, one episode of the Johto series featured a trainer named Ephraim who owned a Skiploom named Skippy that he used to find and compete in a special Grass Tournament. Ephraim ultimately won the tournament after his Skiploom was able to actually beat Ash's Bulbasaur. Aside from that, Skiploom have mostly made minor appearances throughout the anime, as groups in the wild or belonging to random trainers.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Erika was shown with a Skiploom in the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc, and she used it during the gym leader competition only to lose to Pryce's Swinub.

Trivia

• Its name is a combination of "skip" with "bloom" (in reference to its blooming flower).
