Masquerain is a four-winged insect Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the evolved form of Surskit.
Information[edit]
It evolves from Surskit at Level 22. Masquerain has eye-like patterns on its antennae which it uses to intimidate enemies due to the angry look that the patterns make. They also have four wings which they use to hover and fly in any direction including sideways and backwards, similar to a helicopter. Masquerain's eyes appear to be droopy and sad when rainfall is near. This is likely because it cannot fly if its wings get wet due to the water making the wings heavier, so they usually take cover under large trees and leaves until rain stops.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
Masquerain normally has to be obtained by evolving a Surskit. In Pokémon: Platinum Version, it rarely appeared when surfing at Route 229. In Pokémon: HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions, it could appear in the water at the Safari Zone's Meadow area if enough Water objects were present.
Other Games[edit]
It could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire as well as in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Secret Storage 17, Endless Level 20, Forever Level 20 and Mr. Who's Den. Masquerain can also be recruited in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness at the sixth and seventh basement floors of Serenity River.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Masquerain was primarily shown as one of Drew's Pokémon during the Hoenn series. They have mostly made small appearances otherwise.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Masquerain was initially shown as one of Winona's Pokémon during the Ruby/Sapphire arc. It was later featured as one of Guile Hideout's Pokémon which evolved from a Surskit during the Emerald chapter.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a combination of "masquerade" (likely in reference to the way its wings disguise it) with "rain" (due to its association with water as well as its weakness for rain).
