Quilava is a flame-emitting Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It is the middle stage of Cyndaquil's evolutionary line and evolves into Typhlosion.

Information

Quilava evolves from Cyndaquil at Level 14. is covered by nonflammable fur due to the flames erupting from its head and back. Before battle, it turns its back to demonstrate the ferocity of its burning flames. It also turns its back during battle to attack with its flames. The fire burns more strongly when it needs to fight, and it can withstand any type of fire attack (although fire attacks still actually affect it in the games). It uses the intensity of its flames and gusts of superheated air to fend off its enemies.

It is also very nimble and uses its swiftness to dodge attacks even as it scorches its foes with flames. Quilava evolves into Typhlosion at Level 36.

In all of the color versions, it can only be obtained through evolution or by trading one from Pokémon Colosseum.

Other Games

In Pokémon Colosseum, a Shadow Quilava could be snagged from a Cipher Peon in Phenac City, or later in the game if the player instead chooses to fight one of the other two peons (who have Shadow versions of the other second generation starter's first evolutions). After being purified, this Quilava could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Trozei!, Quilava could be found at Endless Levels 60 and 72, Forever Level 10 and Mr. Who's Den.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be found at the fifteenth through twenty-fourth levels of Fiery Field. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness and Time, Quilava could be found on the first nineteen floors of Giant Volcano, the first fifteen basement floors of Dark Crater and the first five basement floors of Dark Crater Pit. In Pokémon Ranger, it appeared at Lyra Forest and Sekra Mountain Range. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it was found at Daybreak Ruins and the Forest Temple. Quilava also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Lava Zone. In Pokémon Rumble Blast, it could be found at Firebreathing Mountain.

Other Appearances

• Quilava has made occasional appearances throughout the Pokémon anime. It was first prominently seen in an episode of the Silver Conference, where it was used by one of Ash's opponents, but was defeated by his Squirtle. During the Sinnoh episodes, Ash brought his Cyndaquil to the Lily of the Valley conference, and it wound by evolving into Quilava while fighting a Team Rocket mech. Dawn's Cyndaquil also evolved into a Quilava in a post-Sinnoh series side story episode when it was fighting off a swarm of Ariados.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Gold's Cyndaquil evolved into a Quilava while he was training at the Day-Care Center. It eventually evolved into a Typhlosion while defending Gold from Lugia at the Whirl Islands.
