Beldam is the leader of the Shadow Sirens who acts as a recurring enemy within Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

Background[edit]

She was the only one of the Shadow Sirens known to have lived for at least a thousand years, as she served the Shadow Queen before her imprisonment behind the Thousand-Year Door. Over the following thousand years, Beldam plotted to free her queen. She planted rumors of a great treasure hidden behind the Thousand-Year Door to get people interested in unlocking it.

As for the other two Shadow Sirens, Beldam was nice to the silently compliant Marilyn, but she disliked Vivian and constantly abused her. The three of them later formed an alliance with the X-Nauts. She inspired Grodus to hunt for the Crystal Stars and use it to open the Thousand-Year Door by telling him that the demon within would obey his every command, while knowing that the Shadow Queen would not actually do so.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Beldam and the Shadow Sirens were called in by Grodus several times to attempt to defeat the interfering Mario. They first hunted him down in Boggly Woods, but Beldam lost his photo and blamed it on Vivian while unaware that Mario was walking pas them. Soon, they found the real photo and fought Mario, only to be defeated. The Sirens tried to stop Mario again at Twilight Town with a Superbombomb, but it was also misplaced. Beldam and Marilyn ditched Vivian and told her to find it. She went missing afterwards, and once Beldam realized that she had left them, she quickly found a new third member to abuse in the form of Doopliss.

The Thousand-Year Door was eventually opened, and all of the involved parties raced to the Shadow Queen's crypt. Beldam, Marilyn and Doopliss fought Mario again in an attempt to stall him. They were defeated, but they made it to the crypt in time to witness the Shadow Queen's resurrection. The Shadow Queen quickly recognized this as Beldam's work and congratulated her.

However, the Shadow Queen was destroyed in the ensuing battle with Mario. With her gone, Beldam was no longer compelled to be evil. She apologized to Vivian, and the three Shadow Sirens went on to live peacefully at Twilight Town.

Abilities[edit]

Despite her role as leader, Beldam is actually the weakest of the Shadow Sirens. However, she does have stat-altering magic on her side.
