Natu is a small green psychic bird Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. Its evolved form is Xatu.

Information

Natu's wings are underdeveloped, which makes them flightless birds. This is compensated by their highly developed jumping ability, and they get around by skipping. While it usually forages for food on the ground, Natu has been also known to hop onto tree branches to feed on new sprouts. It can also run up short tress, and Natu has been known to feed on cactus plants while avoiding buds and spines.

They give the impression that they are always staring at something. It will stare back at a person who makes eye contact with it, but upon the slightest movement the Natu will break the eye contact and flee. It evolves into Xatu at Level 25.

Mainstream Games

In Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Natu commonly appeared outside the Ruins of Alph. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Natu could also appear uncommonly when headbutting trees at Route 28 and Mt. Silver. It could also be caught at the Pokéwalker's Scary Cave course, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold/SoulSilver.

In Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, it could be uncommonly found at the Safari Zone. In FireRed and LeafGreen, it appeared at Ruin Valley. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, they appeared at Route 224 in swarms.

Other Games

In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it could only be hatched from an egg. In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, a Shadow Natu could be snagged from Cipher Peon Eloin at Phenac City, and after being purified it could be transferred to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Trozei!, it could be found at Secret Storage 1, Huge Storage 2, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, Natu could be recruited at the thirteenth through seventeenth floors of Wish Cave and the first five floors of Solar Cave.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, it was found at the first seven floors of Mt. Horn. Natu also appeared in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs at Daybreak Ruins and Thunder Temple.

• In Super Smash Bros. Melee, a Natu made a cameo appearance among a group of Pokémon as part of the game's opening sequence.

Other Media

• In the Pokémon anime, one episode featured a festival at a town where a Natu used its powers for a type of fortune telling. The owner's son, Mackenzie, had his own Natu named Naughty which he tried to work with for the fortune telling attraction, but his attempts ended in failure until the end of the episode.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Natu was shown as one of Crystal's Pokémon during the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc, and she usually used it for aerial transport. Will was also shown to have owned a Natu as a child in a flashback, which presumably evolved into the Xatu he had in the present day. Crystal's Natu evolved into Xatu sometime prior to the Emerald arc.

• Its name seems to be a play on "native" or might be derived form the Aztec god Atu.
