Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (known in Japan as Mario & Luigi RPG 2x2) was the Nintendo DS sequel to Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. This installment expanded the gameplay of the previous game with the addition of the baby versions of Mario and Luigi as playable characters.

Story[edit]

Princess Peach tests the time machine newly invented by Professor E. Gadd, only to be lost in the past when captured by mysterious alien invaders known as the Shroobs. Mario and Luigi travel back in time and team up with their infant counterparts to stop the Shroob invasion and rescue Princess Peach. They also seek the shards of the broken Cobalt Star and as usual have to deal with Bowser along the way.

Gameplay[edit]

The gameplay is expanded from the previous game. Rather than the touch screen, this game mostly plays off of the DS's two screens and extra buttons. These buttons are used to control Baby Mario and Baby Luigi, making way for more complex moves and puzzles. The other main gameplay change is the replacement of Bros. Attacks with Bros. Items, which are similarly used to perform powerful combo attacks.

Sequels[edit]

It was followed by Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, where Bowser replaced the Baby Mario Bros. as the secondary playable character(s), while making greater use of the touch screen and microphone.
