Mario's Super Picross was a puzzle game for the Super NES. A sequel to Mario's Picross, it has sometimes been mistakenly called Mario's Picross 2 which is actually the name of the Game Boy sequel. It was one of the games compatible with the SNES Mouse.
Gameplay[edit]
The player is playing against the clock to solve each puzzle. Rather than simple black and white tiles, the player has a chisel which is used to make indentations in the stone. If the player makes a mistakes, they lose time. Each time to make a mistake, the amount of time lost doubles. The puzzles start out easy with Japanese characters and Greek letters and get progressively harder.
The player also has the option to play as Wario. When playing as Wario, the timer counts up from zero. Getting the wrong tile is not penalized, but the player is also not alerted at all if it is wrong. This makes playing as Wario harder.
Legacy[edit]
The game's engine was reused for Picross NP and some of the puzzles were made available for download on Picross DS.
Ports and Rereleases[edit]
- Mario's Super Picross was rereleased on the Nintendo Power system.
- It became available for download on the Wii's Virtual Console in 2006, the Wii U's Virtual Console in 2013 and the new 3DS through the 3DS Virtual Console in 2016. These releases made it available in PAL territories for the first time, but not America.
- In September 2020, it was added to the library of Super NES games that were made available to play on the Nintendo Switch for subscribers of the Nintendo Switch Online service. This marked the first time it was made available in America.
