Croagunk is a poisonous frog-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. Its evolved form is Toxicroak.

Information

Croagunk has cheeks which hold poison sacs which it inflates to make an eerie blubbering sound that intimidates others. Croagunk usually jab their foes with toxic fingers after catching them offguard. However, they rarely engage in combat in order to ensure their survival. The fluid squeezed from its back, despite being poisonous, has been shown to be a significant ingredient in remedies for lower back pain. Croagunk is also popular as a mascot in several areas such as Pastoria City.

It evolves into Toxicroak at Level 37

In Pokémon: Diamond, Pearl and Platinum Versions, it could possibly appear at the Great Marsh, and in Platinum it could be uncommonly found at Route 212. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could be found at the Safari Zone's Marshland area if enough Forest objects were present. They could also be caught at the Rally course of the Pokéwalker, from which they could be transferred to HeartGold/SoulSilver. In Black and White, they appeared at Route 8 in swarms.

Other Games

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Croagunk could be recruited at Marine Resort and Lost Wilderness, and a non-playable one appeared as part of the Wigglytuff Guild who ran the Swap Cauldron and had a distinctive chuckle. A Croagunk could also be obtained in a random trade with Hayley in My Pokémon Ranch and could be transferred from there to Diamond/Pearl (and Platinum in Japan). In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at the School Path. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Teakwood Forest and the Fire Temple.

In Pokémon Rumble, it was found at Rocky Cave. A Croagunk also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Meadow Zone, where it acted as a Gatekeeper.

• In the Pokémon anime, Brock caught a Croagunk early into the Sinnoh series. It was shown as a skilled fighter and a bit of a loner, and one recurring gag was that it would often use Poison Jab at Brock to stop him from excessively hitting on girls. It also had a rivalry with Saturn's Toxicroack which ended in the Croagunk's victory. Another episode featured Pastoria City celebrating Croagunk, and in the Explorers of Time and Darkness anime special, the Croagunk from the same game appeared.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Croagunk appeared during the Diamond/Pearl arc where it was one of Saturn's main Pokémon.

Trivia

• Its name is a combination of "croak" (which is a frog noise) with "gunk" (due to its poison).
