Background[edit]
Haar was a wyvern rider who was notoriously lazy. He was often seen taking naps at any opportunity. Haar served under Shiharam since they worked in Begnion, and Haar had a great admiration for General Shiharam such that he napped less often. However, the corruption in the Begnion senate drove Shiharam to leave Begnion. Haar came with him to Daein and continued serving Shiharam loyally while adapting to Daein's increasingly brutal customs, becoming a captain in the Daein army. As Shiharam's daughter Jill grew older, she became part of Haar's battalion. Her energy and determination often clashed with Haar's perpetual lethargy and laziness.
Path of Radiance[edit]
He was first seen in "Chapter 11: Blood Runs Red" when he was startled out of his nap by Jill, who wanted to attack the laguz who were accompanying the Crimeans in Port Toha, but Haar refused to because he did not want to interfere with the other Daein troops. Haar later pulled back to Daein but found that Jill was no longer with them. Suspecting she had followed the Crimeans against his orders, he attempted to track her down. He eventually found to his surprise that she had actually joined with the Crimeans. Haar visited Jill at the Crimean camp in "Chapter 19: Entrusted". He actually approved of Jill for forming her own values but at the same time warned her that they would meet again on the battlefield as enemies soon, and that the Crimeans would have to face Shiharam soon.
In "Chapter 20: Defending Talrega", Haar and Shiharam went along with the brutal war tactics posed by Petrine to prevent her from punishing their families in addition to them. However, Shiharam ordered Haar not to join in on their battle with the Crimean Liberation Army so that if they were defeated, Shiharam wanted Haar to take care of the survivors and their families. Shiharam was killed in the final battle. But Haar held Petrine responsible rather than Shiharam, and he remained in the Daein army in hopes of getting close enough to her that he could attempt to kill her and avenge Shiharam's death. He then planned to try bringing the remaining survivors of the wyvern knight troop back to Begnion.
Haar and the remained wyvern riders became part of Petrine's group that protected the Riven Bridge. In "Chapter 23: The Great Bridge", Petrine deployed Haar and the other riders to engage the Crimean Liberation Army in battle. However, Jill was able to convince Haar to switch over to Crimea's side even though Haar was tired of serving countries, but he decided to switch over because of how much he owed Jill's father. After the war ended, Haar expressed his gladness that the war was finally over and that he had time to rest. Afterwards, he and Jill started their own wyvern courier service together.
Radiant Dawn[edit]
Three years later, after things became heated in Daein due to the Begnion Occupation Army, Haar left Daein on a delivery and did not return, instead seeking out more peaceful areas where he could map. In "Prologue: On Drifting Clouds", he was passing through Crimea on a delivery when Elincia and Marcia were caught in a battle to protect Leanne and Nealuchi from Begnion wyvern riders. Haar reluctantly joined the battle to help them. Haar then then remained in the Crimean palace until he received his payment from Lucia at the end of "Chapter 3: Geoffrey's Charge". Lucia told him he could do what he wanted afterwards, but she also asked him to protect Queen Elincia at Fort Alpea if she did not return. As Lucia was kidnapped, Haar did wind up joining Elincia's forces at Fort Alpea in "Endgame: Elincia's Gambit". In that chapter's Base Conversation, Haar gave Elincia a Psychic Staff and boosted Elincia's self esteem by telling her what a great leader he was compared to his previous employers.
Haar was later called over by Ike, whom he considered to be a good friend, to help the Laguz Alliance Army, arriving at the beginning of "Chapter 2: Stormclouds". In the Base Conversation of "Chapter 5: Retreat!", Ike conversed with Haar about Jill's whereabouts, and he said she could take care of herself because she was a big girl now, and he denied Ike's thoughts that there was some type of romance between them. He said he had answered Ike's call because he liked Ike's mercenary group and their laidback nature, then decided to nap until the next battle, but he also gave him Ike a gift (or souvenir as he called in) in the form of the Corrosion skill. In later chapters, Haar could convince Jill to switch over to Ike's side by talking to her.
After the war ended, Haar never fought again despite potentially being the most powerful wyvern rider, and he continued delivering cargo out of Talrega. If he and Jill had an A Rank Support, Haar married her and helped her to govern Talrega.
Support Conversation Summaries[edit]
In Path of Radiance, Haar is capable of having Support conversations with two other characters.
- Jill- In the first conversation, Jill and Haar converse what Jill should refer to Haar as now that he no longer is her superior, and she finally decides on Mr. Haar. In the second conversation, Jill and Haar start out arguing but wind up reminiscing about Shiharam and how Jill wasn't so uptight around him while Haar did not act as lazy in his presence. Haar then finds a nice piece of ground and asks to be left alone for nap time. In the third conversation, they discuss their plans after the war. Jill wants to return to Daein and be near her father's grave, while Haar also plans to guard his grave or something if he survives his duel with Ashnard. Jill then thinks Haar would be unhappy being with her, but Haar says he thought Jill wouldn't be happy with him. They then agree to start a wyvern courier service together after the war, if they survive.
- Makalov- Makalov sees Haar in one of his naps, which causes Makalov to panic and flee. Haar is woken up by his screams and wonders if Makalov confused him with a Daein soldier. In the next conversation, Haar confronts the frightened Makalov and finds that Makalov had confused him with a debt collector, and Makalov is pleased to find this is not the case. In the final conversation, Makalov observes Haar napping and notes how he sleeps no matter what and is naturally intimidating. Makalov decides to imitate Haar so he can scare off debt collectors and first tries training himself to sleep anywhere. Haar wakes up just as Makalov falls asleep, and Haar criticizes him for sleeping before a big battle and wonders how he survived so long.
In Radiant Dawn, Haar has an automatic Bond Support with Jill.
