The Wolfen is the type of spacecraft used by the Star Wolf team throughout their appearances in the Star Fox series. It is essentially the Star Wolf version of Star Fox's Arwings, as the two ships are shown to be somewhat equal in most areas.

Information[edit]

The Star Wolf team piloted Wolfen ships throughout most of their battles with Star Fox in Star Fox 64. The only exception was the final battle at Venom, where each Star Wolf member instead piloted a modified Wolfen II.

Despite this advancement, they once again piloted the original Wolfen ships in Star Fox Assault. In that game, the Wolfens were equipped with gravity-regulating Gravity Blades. With these, the ships were much faster and more powerful than the Arwings, but at the same time they had poor braking and maneuvering.

In Star Fox Command, the Wolfen appeared as Wolf's personal ship (named the "Red Fang" in the instruction manual). Its stats were as follows:

Laser: Twin
Lock: Multi
Bomb: 1
Shield: Average
Boost: High
Time Bonus: 2 seconds

The Wolfen's stats were again similar to that of the Arwing, particularly in the shield and boost areas. When the Wolfen was an opponent in any boss battle, it could also drop floating mines that exploded seconds later. Although the other Star Wolf members no longer rode the Wolfens, their individual ships seemed to have been based upon them.

In the alternate continuity of Star Fox Zero, Star Wolf once again piloted Wolfen fighters. Each fighter's Wolfen had a special attack that was only unleashed during battles in extra unlockable stages: Wolf's ship generated an electric shield known as the Lightning Tornado, Pigma's ship could unleash a cluster of bombs known as the Pigma Bomb, and Andrew's ship could produce electrical tripwires referred to as a Plasma Shield. The Wolfen ships also had the ability to transform into four-legged wolf-like mechas known as Hunters, as a deterrent to the Arwings' Walker mode.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In the Super Smash Bros. games, the Wolfens occasionally appear as laser-firing obstacles in Star Fox-related levels, or as part of the background. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Wolf's new Final Smash involves opponents being teleported into space and targeted by Star Wolf's Wolfen starfighters.
    • Throughout the series, the Wolfen has also been represented as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee, a trophy and two stickers (from 64 and Assault) in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a trophy (using a different model of the Wolfen in each version) in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, a Smash Tour item (which makes an opponent start a battle with 100% damage) in the Wii U game and as an Ace-rank Support Spirit (which raises damage dealt to shields) in Ultimate. When fought against in a Spirit battle, the Wolfen's Spirit would possess Wolf himself, with enhanced attack power and movement speed, as well as a Final Smash meter that charges more quickly.

Canceled Appearances[edit]

  • An earlier version of the Wolfen ships appeared in Star Fox 2 as Star Wolf's ships.

Trivia[edit]

  • According to trophy decriptions from the Super Smash Bros. games, Andross and Pigma had a had in designing the Wolfen fighters.
