Darumaka is a small and round fiery Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. Its evolved form is Darmanitan.

Information

Darumaka is sustained by an internal fire. While this fire is burning, Darumaka acts every energetic and runs around, unable to calm itself down. It then goes to sleep when the fire diminishes. Darumaka's droppings are reported to be so hot that people have put them in their clothes to keep themselves warm.

Darumaka evolves into Darmanitan at Level 35.

In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, Darumaka could be uncommonly found at Route 4 and Desert Resort.

Other Games

In Pokémon Rumble Blast, Darumaka was found at the lava area of Volcanic Slope, the field and lava areas of Firebreathing Mountain and the lava area of World Axle's first basement floor. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, three Darumaka appeared in Rockridge Fort at the Crag Area, and one could be recruited through a chase.

• In the Pokémon anime, a pair of Darumaka were featured in one episode of the Unova series in which they stole food for a Darmanitan that was stuck in Zen Mode while trying to keep a bell tower from collapsing with Psychic. Other Darumaka have made minor appearances in later episodes, including one belonging to a trainer named Dino which Ash's Palpitoad made quick work of during the Battle Club tournament.

Trivia

• Darumaka is based on and named after the Daruma doll, a Japanese doll originating from the Zen sect of Buddhism. The Daruma is a symbol of good luck in Japanese culture, and Darumaka being a fire type refers to the Daruma burning ceremony.
