Silcoon is a cocooned insect Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the middle form in one branch of Wurmple's evolutionary line and evolved into Beautifly. Its counterpart on the other branch of the evolutionary line is Cascoon.

Information[edit]

Wurmple at Level 7 into either Silcoon or Cascoon seemingly at random (although it is actually dependent on personality values). Silcoon tethers itself to a tree branch using its silk to prevent it from falling and it tries to hang quietly while awaiting its next evolution. It can peer out of its cocoon through a small hole. Silcoon was originally believed to endure hunger without consuming anything while awaiting evolution, but it was later discovered that Silcoon survives off of rainwater which collects on its silk. Silcoon's hard cocoon repels attacks, and it moves as little as possible to preserve the energy left over from its time as a Wurmple.

Silcoon evolves into Beautifly at Level 10.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, Silcoon was uncommonly found at Petalburg Woods. In Diamond, it was uncommonly found at Eterna Forest and could appear on honey-covered trees. In Platinum, it was more rarely found at Eterna Forest and was also uncommonly found in the northern area of Route 205. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Silcoon could be uncommonly found at the National Park during the Bug-Catching Contest on Thursdays after the National Pokédex was unlocked.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, Silcoon could be found in the Forest. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Secret Storage 15, Endless Level 17, Forever Level 17 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the fourth through sixth floors of Sinister Woods, and in Explorers of Time and Darkness they were found at Mystery Jungle and Lush Prairie. Silcoon also appeared in Pokémon Ranger at Olive Jungle.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, May's Wurmple evolved as a Silcoon around the same time that Jessie's Wurmple evolved into a Cascoon (although she initially believed it was also a Silcoon). It remained as Silcoon for just a few episodes before evolving into Beautifly.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Silcoon made only a brief appearance in one of the first chapters of the Ruby/Sapphire arc when Professor Birch witnessed a Wurmple evolving into one and was surprised due to being under the impression that Cascoon was its only evolved form.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "silk" and "cocoon".
