Cascoon is a cocooned insect Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the middle form in one branch of Wurmple's evolutionary line and evolves into Dustox. Its counterpart in the alternate branch is Silcoon.
Information[edit]
Wurmple evolves at Level 7, seemingly randomly (but actually due to its personality value) into either Cascoon or Silcoon. Its protective cocoon was made by wrapping its entire body with a fine silk from its mouth which hardened after the whole body was covered. It is hot within the cocoon, where all of Cascoon's cells create the energy for it to evolve. Cascoon usually evades enemies by hiding motionlessly behind large leaves and in the gaps of branches, as well as attaching dead leaves to its body for camouflage.
They remain motionless when attacked no matter how badly they were hurt in order to prevent its body from becoming weak during evolution. Cascoon instead endures the pain patiently, which apparently makes its Dustox body sturdier, and it remembers the appearances of its attackers as well as the pain they inflict so that it could later seek payback as a Dustox. Cracks appear in its cocoon when its evolution nears. Cascoon evolves into Dustox at Level 10.

Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, Cascoon was uncommonly found at Petalburg Woods. In Pearl, it uncommonly appeared at Eterna Forest and could also appear at honey-covered trees. In Platinum, it was rarely found at Eterna Forest and uncommonly appeared at the northern part of Route 205. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could be caught at the National Park's Bug-Catching Contest on Saturdays after the National Pokédex was unlocked.

In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it appeared at the Forest. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Secret Storage 11, Forever Level 10, Endless Level 10 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the fourth through sixth floors of Sinister Woods and at most floors of Murky Cave, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness it could be found at most floors of Mt. Horn, Lush Prairie and Mystery Jungle.

- In the Pokémon anime, Jessie's Wurmple spent several episodes of the Hoenn series as a Cascoon at the same time that May's Wurmple was a Silcoon. She confused it with a Silcoon, although James and Meowth both knew it was a Cascoon and dreaded how Jessie would react to finding out the truth. However, she wound up being pleased with Dustox when Cascoon soon evolved.
- Cascoon was not explicitly shown in the Pokémon Adventures manga, but it was mentioned by Professor Birch when he observed a Wurmple evolving into a Silcoon at the beginning of the Ruby/Sapphire arc, as he had been under the mistaken assumption that Wurmple only evolved into Cascoon.
