Labrynna
Type Land
Debut The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages

Labrynna is a land that was featured as the setting of The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages.

Information[edit]

In the past, Labrynna was a monarchy that was ruled by Queen Ambi. The monarchy seemed to be abolished at some point during the following 400 years in place of a more democratic system wherein the land's few settlements seemed to shift to self-governing. During the present age, Labrynna was home to Nayru, the Oracle of Ages, who could travel through time. The Sorceress of Shadows, Veran, was able to possess Nayru and used her to alter Labrynna's timestream. She influenced Queen Ambi and later possessed her after being driven from Nayru's body. This caused the Labrynna of the present to be corrupted in various ways, including various citizens being turned into stone. It was Link who traveled through time with the power of the Harp of Ages to gather the seven Essences of Time while undoing some of Veran's damage. After Veran was defeated by Link, history was returned to normal, and Labrynna was left a more prosperous place.

Labrynna is mostly home to humans and what appear to be Hylians, with only two known cities. The only other local tribe on Labrynna's mainland are the Gorons. There are also Zoras living in the neigboring Zora Sea and the eccentric Tokay that live at Crescent Island. Labrynna also contains its own Maku Tree near Lynna City (it was only a sapling 400 years ago) which served as a source of wisdom to the locals, as well as to Link during his quest.

Locations[edit]

As Labrynna is visited in two different time periods, the locations are different depending on which time period is used. The past notably has more ocean; the land expands for the four hundred years, which causes new areas such as Yoll Graveyard and the Forest of Time to appear.

  • Black Tower - This is the tower which Veran has constructed south of Lynna Village. It is a corruption of Queen Ambi's attempt to build a tower known as Ambi's Tower to act as a landmark for her seafaring lover. The tower is filled with monsters and is used as a conduit point to grant Veran more power. Veran had used Nayru's power to stop time for a day and forced the men of Lynna Village to tirelessly work on it. Link explores the tower at the end of the game, and it collapses following Veran's destruction.
  • Crescent Island - An island in the shape of a crescent moon that is located off the southeastern shore of Labrynna, near the Sea of Storms. It is home to the Tokay tribe who live in several huts, and there are also various caves throughout the island. The island contains the Wild Tokay minigame and Tokay Traders shop in the past, and in the present the Wild Tokay minigame is replaced by the Wild Tokay Museum. The animal companion Dimitri could also be found there later in the game. The surrounding water has receded in the present, which resulted in the island having an expanded landmass with more trees. One landmark is a type of Tokay statue which is the entrance to the Moonlit Grotto in the present age. In the past, this statue instead contains a path to the Sea of No Return which opens once the missing Tokay Eyeball is placed there. There is a maze of currents underneath the island, and to the north is the crescent strait. Link is initially stranded there after a storm, and he has to retrieve his items from throughout the islands and from the various Tokay.
  • Deku Woods/Fairies' Woods - This is a forest located in southwestern Labrynna. In the past, it is a run-down area known as the Deku Woods. It is a fairly empty area save for a Mystery Seed tree. The present version is known as the Fairies' Woods. It has a Lost Woods-like maze structure and is home to three fairies whom Link must find in order to reach the Wing Dungeon hidden in the forest. Later in the game, Link meets his animal companion in these woods.
  • Forest of Time - This is a small forest located in the eastern part of Labrynna, between Lynna City and Yoll Graveyard. This is the first location found in the game and contains the grove where Nayru was kidnapped. Nayru's home is located in the forest. Tingle was also found on a cliff in the southern portion of the forest. The forest is only around in the present; in the past, this area is area is the coast of the Sea of No Return.
  • Lynna Village/City - This is the primary human settlement of Labrynna which is located just north of the central point of Labrynna. In the past, it was a small village that acted as the capital for Labrynna and was in a somewhat dilapidated state, most likely due at least in part to Veran's actions. Queen Ambi's Castle was located just north of the village. In the present, the palace is gone, but the village has developed into a city with its mayor being Plen. Link is revered at the end of the game, with statues being erected in the past which remain into the present age. Citizens in the past include Pippin, Adlar, ???, the Postman and Dekadin, and citizens in the present include Dr. Troy, Mamamu Yan, Bipin and Blossom, Vasu, and a Comedian. The Maku Tree's grove is also located just north of the settlement in both eras, although the tree is only a sapling in the past.
  • Nuun Highlands - This is the area located just north of Lynna City, in the center of Labrynna's northern edge. In the past, this is where Queen Ambi's Palace was located, but there is no trace of it in the present. The terrain in the highlands is different depending on which animal becomes Link's companion.
  • Rolling Ridge - Rolling Ride is a mountainous area in the northeastern corner of Holodrum. It is home to a Goron tribe who run several different minigames and raise Bomb Flower crops. They create tunnels connecting the different parts of the ridge as the game progresses. This also where the Great Moblin set up his keep, and he prevented the Gorons from growing Bomb Flowers until Link was able to defeat him. Link received a Bomb Flower in gratitude. In the past, the Goron Elder was trapped under a landslide, but Link's Bomb Flower was able to save him. The Crown Dungeon is located in the western part of the ridge and is only reached during the present, while the Mermaid's Cave is found at the southeastern area at the base of Rolling Ridge, and it can be reached during both time periods.
  • Sea of No Return - This is the sea located to the east of Labrynna which is only visible in the past. Link can only enter it by passing through a hidden passageway on Crescent Island. This leads to a landmass within the sea which contains a maze leading to the entrance of the Ancient Tomb dungeon.
  • Sea of Storms - This is a sea located to the south of Labrynna. Its namesake is its violent storms. It is surrounded by whirlpools, and the area could only be entered in the past with the Mermaid Suit, which caused the Zora guarding the entrance to let Link through. The Captain's pirate ship was trapped in the Sea of Storms in the past until Link gave them the Zora Scale, which helped them to navigate out of the seas. This instead occurs in the present in a linked game.
  • Symmetry Village/City - Located atop Restoration Wall along the Talus Speaks, his is a special town which is designed to be completely symmetrical. Each citizen has a twin in the other half of the town. The balance of this town is preserved by the special Tuni Nut. In the past era, the Tuni Nut was broken, which caused the mountain to become volcanic and leave Symmetry City in ruins during the present age. Link was able to fix the Tuni Nut at Restoration Wall in the past in order to restore balance to the area, ensuring that Symmetry Village lived on to become Symmetry City. Symmetry City is much more serene, and the volcanic crater at the northern edge of the town instead becomes a waterfall which contains the entrance to the Unicorn's Cave dungeon.
  • Talus Peaks - A mountainous area that covers the western portion of Labrynna. It is home to Talus Lake, which feeds a river into Labrynna, and Link can use time travel to alter the river's course. Tokkey, who teaches the Tune of Currents, lives in a cave in this area. Symmetry Village/City is located in this area atop a large cliff known as Restoration Wall, which can be scaled through vines but is plagued by boulders. Patch lives in a cave along this wall.
  • Yoll Graveyard - This is a gloomy graveyard located east of Lynna City which is only around during the present era. It contains the first dungeon, the Spirit's Grave. Link will meet Moosh and Maple in this area at different points, as well as a friendly Poe in one grave who gives Link a Poe Clock which starts the trading sidequest. The graveyard also contains the grave of Cheval, which Link must explore to find his special rope and the Zora Flippers.
  • Zora Seas - These are the oceans which are seen in the southwestern corner of the map. The Zoras live here within a Zora Village. These Zoras are ruled by a King Zora. The seas are initially poisoned, which causes King Zora to due in the past, until Link manages to get the Queen of the Fairies to purify the water during that time period. These Zoras here also have their own Jabu-Jabu, whose interior is explored as a dungeon in the present once King Zora is healed.
