Machoke is a bodybuilding Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation Pokémon games. It is the middle form of Machop's evolutionary line and evolves into Machamp.

Information

Machoke evolves from Machop at Level 28. Its muscular body is so powerful that it must always wear a special belt to hold back its energy and regulate its motions. It would otherwise be unstoppable. Machoke always fights at full power, never gets tired and exudes an amazing amount of strength even when standing still. Its muscles become even bigger after every battle and are as thick as steel.

They spend most of their time bodybuilding and will often volunteer to help people with tough and physically demanding labor. On its days off, Machoke head off to mountains and fields to train. A Machoke is strong enough to hold a sumo wrestler in the air using just one finger and can even lift a dump truck with just one hand. Machoke evolves into Machamp when traded to another trainer.

In Pokémon: Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed and LeafGreen, Machoke could be caught at Victory Road. In Yellow, a trainer at Route 5 will trade a Machoke to the player for a Cubone, and it will immediately evolve. In FireRed/LeafGreen, Machoke also appeared at Cerulean Cave and Mt. Ember.

In Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Machoke could be found at Rock Tunnel and Mt. Mortar, as well as at Silver Cave in Crystal. In HeartGold/SoulSilver, Machoke also appeared at Cliff Cave and Cerulean Tunnel.

In Diamond and Pearl, Machoke could be found at Routes 210, 211, 216, 217, 225 and 226 as well as Stark Mountain, Mt. Coronet and Victory Road. In Platinum, it only appeared at Routes 210, 211, 225 and 226 in addition to Mt. Coronet.

Other Games

In Pokémon Pinball as well as Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, Machoke could only be obtained by evolving Machop. In the Pokémon series of e-Reader cards, Machop would evolve into a Machoke at the end of the "Machop at Work" minigame if Machop crushed between 50 to 99 rocks. If all 100 rocks were crushed, the Machoke would then immediately evolve into a Machamp. In Pokémon Trozei!, Machoke was found at Secret Storage 15 and Mr. Who's Den.

Machoke appeared in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, where it could be recruited at the seventeenth through twenty-fifth floors of Fiery Field as well as the eightieth through eighty-seventh floors of Buried Relic. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, it could be recruited at Aegis Cave. In Pokémon Ranger, Machike appeared at Dusk Factory, while in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia it as aboard Cargo Ship. Machoke also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Rocky Cave.

• Machoke has made many minor appearances throughout the Pokémon anime and can commonly be seen in scenes set at construction sites or dojos. Chuck used a Machoke as one of his main Pokémon during his battle with Ash, and it lost to his Bayleef. Maylene also had a Machoke which was beaten by Ash's Staravia.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, a wuld Machoke was featured in the second chapter where Red has to fight it off after it wandered into Viridian Gym. Blue also owned his own Machoke which was accidentally trained to Red. Red tried training the Pokémon using his ideals, and the Machoke soon evolved into Machamp while fighting a Ninetales as a result of having technically been traded. Brawly was also shown using a Machoke in battle with Team Magma during the Ruby/Sapphire arc.

Trivia

• Machoke's name is a combination of "macho" (meaning masculinity and toughness) and "choke" (which is used as move in various types of martial arts such as judo).
