Dewgong is a seal-like Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation games. It is the evolved form of Seel.

Information[edit]

Dewgong evolves from Seel at Level 34. It has a snowy-white body that is unharmed by intense cold, and it swims powerfully at eight knots in icy waters. Its streamlined body has little drag when swimming, and it uses its long tail to change its swimming direction quickly. A Dewgong becomes friskier as the temperature becomes colder. They sleep under shallow ocean waters during the day and hunt for food at night when it is cold.

They love frigid seas with ice floes, and they also love to sleep on bitterly cold ice. A mariner who saw one sleeping on a glacier confused it with a mermaid long ago. Dewgong's pure white coat also disguises it from predators during snow. It stores thermal energy in its body.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed and LeafGreen, Dewgong rarely appeared in Seafoam Island (by surfing as well in FireRed/LeafGreen), and in Yellow the player could a trade a Growlithe to a trainer at Cinnabar Island for one. In FireRed/LeafGreen, it could also be found both on foot and by surfing at Icefall Cave.

In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Dewgong was uncommonly found in the lower floors of the Seafoam Islands. In Diamond, it was rarely found by surfing at Routes 226 and 230, while in Platinum it was found by both walking and surfing in the deep area of Victory Road. In Black and White, it could be rarely found when surfing in rippling water within the Giant Chasm.

Other Games[edit]

Dewgong could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Pinball and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams. It also appeared in Pokémon Puzzle League as part of Lorelei's team. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Endless Level 30, Forever Level 79, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Dewgong could be recruited at the sixth through ninth basement floors of Brine Cave and the first basement floor of Lower Brine Cave. Dewgong also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Bright Beach.
