Ambipom is a two hand-tailed monkey-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It was introduced in the fourth generation games as the new evolved form of the second generation Pokémon Aipom.

Information

Ambipom evolves from an Aipom when it levels up after learning Double Hit (which it learns at Level 32) starting in the fourth generation. Its tail splits into two separate tails during the evolution, and as with Aipom, these tails end in hand-like appendages. The tails are so adept at handling and and performing tasks that they rarely use their actual hands. Ambipom live in large colonies on big trees. They communicate by linking their tails and usually make rings like this, apparently out of friendship. It uses both its tails to deftly break the shells of nuts in order to eat, and enemies can rarely dodge Ambipom when they attack consecutively with both tails.

Ambipom has not been found in the wild and can only be obtained by evolving an Aipom.

Other Games

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Ambipom could be recruited at Marine Resort and Sky Stairway. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Vien Forest. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, they appeared at Daybreak Ruins and the Ice Temple. In Pokémon Rumble, it could be found at Windy Prairie. Ambipom also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Meadow Zone and the Haunted Zone.

• In the Pokémon anime, Dawn's Aipom which originally belonged to Ash evolved into Aipom while protecting Dawn from a group of Unown in an episode of the Sinnoh series, soon after learning Double Hit. She continued to use it for most of her contests in which it was usually successful aside from one initial failure, and it even learned how to breakdance. However, one episode later in the series showed that Ambipom was actually a prodigy at ping pong, and it chose to leave Dawn to pursue competitive ping pong with a trainer named O.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Gold's Aipom evolved into an Ambipom during the HeartGold/SoulSilver arc.

Trivia

• Its name is a combination of "ambidextrous" (likely due to its pair of tails and hands) and a play on "palm", and its name also seems to be intended as a lengthening of Aipom's name.
