Background
Tauroneo was a general in the Daein army and came from a famed line of Daein warriors. He served as one of Daein's Four Riders and became good friends with his fellow Rider, Greil (who was known as Gawain at the time) until Gawain went missing. He had appreciated the rule of the king at the time, but when Ashnard took over, Tauroneo lost faith in his king due to Ashnard's ruling through fear and desire for nothing but war.
Tauroneo was married and had two sons. He trained his oldest son, Josh, to serve the Daein army in the same way Tauroneo was raised by his father. However, Josh became Ashnard's personal guard and was crippled in battle. His wife urged him to leave the army and all this grief, but Tauroneo was blinded by family tradition and tried training his younger son, who was only a boy, to become a Daein general. This led his wife to divorce him, and she took the children with her. Tauroneo was left alone in his mansion with nothing but medals of his accomplishments. He lost his will to live and continued fighting with the Daein army only to await the day of his death.
In "Chapter 21: Without a King" of Path of Radiance, he was stationed in Daein Keep. However, if Ike tried talking to Tauroneo, he stopped the fight because Ike's fighting style reminded him of the style of Greil's. He discovered that Greil had been killed by the Black Knight, and Ike was his only son. Thus Tauroneo refused to fight Ike, saying that he would not kill Ike and cause the world to lose Greil's style of swordsmanship. He surrendered and told Ike to do with him whatever he would. To Tauroneo's surprise, Ike allowed him to join the Crimean Liberation Army. After the war ended, Tauroneo departed, saying that he had played his part and that history would judge his actions.
Three years later, Tauroneo had been called in by Izuka to join with the Daein Liberation Army. He joined in order to atone for betraying his country during the Great King's War, and also because he sought an honorable death on the battlefield. He was first seen in "Chapter 5: The Lost Heir" of "Part 1: The Silver-Haired Maiden", defending the Daein Liberation's base in the Desert of Death alongside Jill and Zihark. After Micaiah gained control of the army, Tauroneo was only playable in "Chapter 6: Raise the Standard". In "Chapter 7: Gathering Hope", he held off soldiers while the others liberated a prison camp, while in "Chapter 8: Glory Unwanted" he was forbidden from joining Micaiah's group in the mission but gifted Micaiah with a Restore staff. After the war for Daein independence ended, Tauroneo became an adviser to the newly-crowned Pelleas.
Tauroneo remained in the background for most of "Part 3: Intersecting Vows". Pelleas confided his signing of the blood contract to Tauroneo. He was also sent to deliver messages to Micaiah's group, although he also made some visits to the army of the Laguz Alliance Army (the enemy of Daein) to report to Ike. He also gave Sothe a pair of Boots after he had found out about the blood contract in "Chapter 12: The Price" (having originally planned to give them to Sothe as a parting gift when he was planning to leave the army). He then joined the Daein troops on the battlefield in "Chapter 12: The Price" and "Chapter 13: Blood Contract". In the latter chapter, he would execute Pelleas to destroy the blood contract's power if Micaiah chose to pass on the curse.
Afterwards, in "Part 4: Of Gods and Men", Tauroneo was sent to accompany the Hawk Army. After the war ended, Taurneo continued working nonstop to help advance Daein, working both in military and politics.
