Type | Power-Up |
Debut | Super Mario Bros. 3 |
The Frog Suit is a power-up that was featured in Super Mario Bros. 3.
Information[edit]
This power-up is a frog costume that has been worn in Mario and Luigi, and it is found irregularly throughout Super Mario Bros. 3, starting at the third world. Wearing this suit will cause Mario and Luigi to perform frog-like habits. One of the most notable abilities associated with the suit is that it allows Mario and Luigi to swim much more freely and faster underwater. On ground, the suit is less immediately useful, as Frog Mario and Frog Luigi can only hop slowly like a frog, although their jumping abilities are increased.
It has made a few appearances outside of its original game. In Paper Mario: Sticker Star, it appeared as a sticker that allowed Mario to transform into Frog Mario for one turn. For that turn, he could jump over enemy attacks, and his next attacks would be stronger. It returned as a card in Paper Mario: Color Splash, where it no longer enhanced Mario's attack power, but instead of only lasting one turn, it would last until Mario took damage or until the end of the battle.
In Super Mario Maker, Frog Mario appeared as one of the Mystery Mushroom costumes that Mario could transform into at random. It was unlocked by clearing the NES Remix Event Course. The Frog Suit was also added to Super Mario Maker 2 as a regular power-up in April 2020, where it could be used for stages made in the Super Mario Bros. 3 style.
Other Appearances[edit]
Video Games[edit]
- As part of the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack for Nintendo releases of Minecraft, the Frog Suit would replace the Iron Armor.
Other Media[edit]
- The Frog Suit was featured in several episodes of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. In most cases, Mario and Luigi donned Frog Suits when they had to go underwater. One episode had Princess Toadstool and Toad also wearing Frog Suits. King Koopa also took on the form of the Frog Suit in one episode while using a Power Pendant.
- It was seen in Super Mario-Kun, where Mario played a prank on Luigi by pretending to drown, when he was actually wearing the Frog Suit.
- Mario was seen using the Frog Suit when underwater in an issue of the Nintendo Comics System series, but he lost it after being kissed by Big Bertha.
Trivia[edit]
- If Mario or Luigi clears a world while wearing the Frog Suit, the world's king will assume that the brother has actually been turned into a frog and then offers to restore him using his wand.
