Florina was a timid girl hailing from Ilia. She was known for her great fears of men and archers (due to the critical effect arrows have on pegasi). She was a playable unit in all three modes of Fire Emblem.

Background[edit]

Florina was raised in Ilia, the youngest of three sisters. When she was young, one of her sisters told her the legend of an Ice Dragon who lived on Ilia's tallest mountain. Florina made her way to the place of offering in hopes of meeting the dragon, but it never came, and she got a cold much to her sister's displeasure.

Florina admired the oldest of her sisters, Fiora, so she decided to become a pegasus knight like her. She soon met her pegasus and, although they were at first both afraid of each other, they slowly understood each other and grew closer together until they were close friends. Florina soon became a pegasus knight-in-training. She met Lyn one day in the Sacae Plains. She had been scared by a swarm of bees and climbed a tree to escape them, but she got stuck there until Lyn met her and helped her down. Lyn and Florina became fast friends and had many happy memories in the Sacae Plains.

Eventually the time came for Florina to take her test to become a full-fledged pegasus knight. She was quite nervous because she would have to travel among a group of mercenaries (most of whom were likely to be men) as her test. She decided to talk with Lyn first, but she learned that Lyn had left with some strangers upon arriving at Sacae and set out in search of her. In "Chapter 3: Band of Mercenaries", her efforts to find Lyn resulted in her accidentally trampling a Ganelon bandit with the hooves of her pegasus. Florina tried apologizing, but the bandits would not accept it. Lyn and her group soon arrived, and helped Florina to defeat the bandits. After hearing about the knighting ceremony, Sain told her that Lyn's group was basically a group of mercenaries, so Florina could simply travel with them in order to fulfill her knighting ceremony. Florina approved of the idea and traveled with Lyn's group for the remainder of her tale.

Florina was promoted to a pegasus knight after Lyn's journey was successfully completed in "Chapter 10: The Distant Plains". She decided to remain at Castle Caelin and serve under Lyn, while undergoing training so she could become more valuable to Lyn. Her fear of men also lessened, but only slightly.

Florina returned with the rest of Lyn's group in during Eliwood and Hector's Tales in "The Noblewoman of Caelin" (Eliwood Chapter 15, Hector Chapter 16). When Castle Caelin was attacked by men from Laus, Florina volunteered to deliver a message of distress to Eliwood in order to prove herself. A platoon of Laus archers attempted to shoot her down when she approached Eliwood's group. Florina avoided the arrows, but she lost her balance and fell. In Hector's Tale, it is shown that she survives when both she and her pegasus land on Hector, who breaks their falls. Florina then joined up with Eliwood's group to help Lyn liberate Castle Caelin from the Laus soldiers, and she remained with the group for the rest of the adventure.

Possible Fates[edit]

Florina has three different endings, depending on which characters she gains A-Rank Support with.

  • Default Ending- After Lyn gives over rule of Caelin to Ostia, Florina returns to Ilia. She remains shy but is strengthed within by her shyness at the same time.
  • Hector and Florina's Ending- Florina comforts Hector following the death of his brother Uther, and Hector's ascension to the throne. She helps him to become an enlightened leader. In this ending she becomes the mother of Lilina.
  • Lyn and Florina's Ending- After Lyn gives over rule of caelin to Ostia, Florina initially accompanies Lyn to the Sacae Plains. She later returns to Ilia, but her friendship with Lyn endures forever.

Support Conversation Summaries[edit]

Florina is capable of having Support conversations with seven other characters.

  • Farina- Florina and Farina are reunited after not seeing each other in a long time. Florina finds that Farina has not changed and is still overly interested in money. Farina later tells Lyn some embarrassing stories about Florina's behavior at Ilian festivals. Florina then gets angry at Farina, and Farina said that it was all a test to see if Florina had changed. Farina said that Florina had grown and become very powerful and like a different person.
  • Fiora- Fiora begins to worry about Florina's well-being and asks her to return to Ilia so that they could fight alongside each other, as Fiora believed Florina's abilities qualified her to become a first rank pegasus knight. But Florina ultimately turns Fiora down, because she said she knew Fiora would protect her in the Ilian knight, but that was the problem. Florina wanted to become her own person and not rely on Fiora's protection forever. Fiora ended by telling Florina never to turn down a mission, not even if she knew she would not survive, in order to protect the honor of the Ilian knights brigade.
  • Hector- The first conversation is almost total silence, and at one point Florina starts to stay something to Hector, but she quickly stops. In the second conversation, Florina tries rehearsing thanking Hector for saving her life the time she was shot down by Bauker's men, but when Hector walks in on her she panics and runs away. In the third conversation Hector confronts Florina to find out why she's always running away from him, and Florina tells him and thanks him. Hector decides to keep Florina nearby on the battlefield so she did not get into trouble, and when she starts crying happily Hector tells her to stop.
  • Lyn- In the first conversation, Lyn acts overly protective of Florina, even though Florina attempts to tell her that it is her job to protect Lyn. In the second conversation, Lyn reminisces about her first meeting with Florina and the fun they had on the plains. In the third and final conversation, Lyn reveals her yearnings to return to the plains and invites Florina to join her when she does.
  • Ninian- In the first Support conversation, Ninian talks to Florina about Ilia and reveals that she was born there. In the second conversation, Florina asks Ninian if she knew of some way to make it easier for her to talk for other people, but Ninian replied that she also was not good at talking with other people and thus was not the right tutor for her. But since they were able to talk to each other easily, they decided to become friends. In the third Support conversation, Florina and Ninian disclose where in Ilia they were each born. Ninian says that she was born on the tallest mountain, and Florina is surprised, saying that's the Mountain of the Ice Dragon. Ninian claimed to know nothing about the legend of the Ice Dragon, so Florina told it to her. Florina told Ninian of how she had wanted to meet the Ice Dragon as a child and her belief that different species could get along together, saying that humans and dragons could get along like her and her pegasus.
  • Nino- In the first Support conversation, Nino excitedly asks Florina a barrage of questions about herself, and Florina struggles to answer, but Nino leaves before Florina is done. Then in the second conversation, Nino tells Florina about her "brothers", Lloyd and Linus, and the fun she had with them. In the third conversation, Florina asks Nino if she's ever bothered and feels lonely due to the absence of Linus and Lloyd, and Nino says that she felt sad that they had to part as enemies. Florina and Nino both start to cry, and Florina assures Nino that she will always be there for her.
  • Serra- Florina comes to Serra seeking help. She wants Serra to teach her how to be more assertive and less scared of men so that she could be more useful in battle. Serra tries teaching her to overcome her shyness, but when Florina cannot do it, Serra comes to the conclusion that not everyone can be like her. She confides in Florina that she is actually an Etrurian noblewoman. Florina and Serra decided to remain friends.

Trivia[edit]
