Super Smash Bros. Melee is a fighting game. It's a sequel to the original Super Smash Bros. It took everything that was good about the original and multiplied it.

Story

Master Hand got bored one day and decided to have his favorite Nintendo characters duke it out.

Playable Characters

Gameplay

Though every character fights differently, they have the same basic control scheme. The A button will let you use regular attacks while the B button and a direction will unleash a special attack. The C^ button can make your character jump. Pressing the Z button will allow you to throw a character if there's a character nearby; if there's no one nearby, you will use your shield.

There are several 1 Player modes. In Classic mode, the player fights a series of individual battles against the other characters in the game. In Adventure mode, the player goes through a platforming section before fighting their battle. In All-Star mode, the player must battle every character in the game with only one life. Finally, there are event matches which have various goals and conditions.

The true heart of the game, however, is the multiplayer. Super Smash Bros. can be played by up to four players simultaneously. It supports a variety of different play modes including time, stock, and team options. In addition to these modes, there are also a bunch of special melees with different conditions. For example, there is a mode where you fight in slow motion or can only attack with the A button.
