Victreebel is a large, carnivorous plant Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation games as the third and final form of Bellsprout's evolutionary line.

Information

Victreebel evolves from Weepinbell when exposed to a Leaf Stone. It is known to lure prey in with the sweet aroma of honey and then swallow them whole, with the acid within its body dissolving prey entirely within a day. The honeylike scent is actually the smell of the acid, which is sweetened by the melted prey. Victreebel has a long vine hanging from its head that it waves about as if it were an animal as another method of attracting prey.

They are said to live in colonies deep within jungles, but those who have tried to investigate have never returned, raising the possibility that Victreebel also eats humans.

In all color versions, Victreebel could only be gained by evolving a Weepinbell.

Other Games

In Pokémon Pinball, Victreebel could be obtained through evolution. In Pokémon Snap, Victreebel could be photographed in the Cave area. Victreebel also appeared in Pokémon Trozei! at Endless Level 14, Forever Level 63, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams as well as Explorers of Time and Darkness, Victreebel could only be obtained through evolution.

In Pokémon Ranger, Victreebel appeared at Lyra Forest, and in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia it could be found at Hippowdon Temple. Victreebel also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Windy Prairie.

• Within the Pokémon anime series, James of Team Rocket had a Victreebel that started appearing partway through the Kanto series. He had left it in the Pokémon daycare as a Weepinbell and it had evolved into a Victreebel when he retrieved it. It was a recurring gag that Victreebel would often bite down on James (and sometimes other members of Team Rocket) as a sign of affection. It appeared regularly until an episode partway through the Johto series, when James was talked into trading the Victreebel to the shifty Magikarp salesman for a Weepinbel that knew Sweet Scent. The Weepinbel evolved into a Victreebel within the same episode and was kicked out of the team by Jessie after it had tried biting her. The Magikarp salesman had gotten rid of James's old Victreebel for trying the same on him, which lead to the two Victreebel meeting and falling in love at the end of the episode.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, one chapter had a Victreebel in the Safari Zone kidnapping Red to be fed to a group of Weepinbell as an evolution ceremony. Red managed to both escape and catch the Victreebel. In the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc, Crystal was shown battling a Victreebel to catch for her Pokédex when Professor Elm's messenger Chikorita arrived. The Victreebel briefly tried to use Chikorita as a shield.

Trivia

• Its name seems to be a play on a combination of "victory" and "bell", and the usage of the double e in its name seems to be a way to also work in "tree".
• It is likely that it was actually supposed to be named "Victreebell" (with two l's), but was held back by the games' ten character limit for Pokémon names.
