Zoroark is bipedal dark fox-like Pokémon with illusion powers that was introduced in the fifth generation games. It is the evolved form of Zorua, and it is notable in that both it and Zorua can only be obtained in Pokémon: Black and White Versions by using other Pokémon obtained from Nintendo events.

Information

Zoroark evolves from Zorua at Level 30. They usually travel in packs and have very strong bonds between each other. Zoroark trick their opponents using their abilities of illusion in order to protect the safety of their packs. Each Zoroark has the ability to fool a large group of people at the same time, and they have been known to use illusory scenery to conceal their lair. There also seems to be some sort of animosity between Zoroark and the legendary dog Pokémon (Entei, Raikou and Suicune), as evidence by the Black/White ingame event.

Appearances

Mainstream Games

In Black and White, Zoroark takes on the form of a silent woman in a trailer at Lostlorn Forest, and its illusion also conceals a vacant portion of the forest. If the player enters the forest with one of the Crown Beasts (a Shiny Entei, Raikou or Suicune) gained from a Nintendo event, the Zoroark would violently attack disguised as one of the other Crown Beasts. Zoroark could be captured or defeated in the ensuing battle, at which point its illusions disappeared.

Other Games

In Pokémon Rumble Blast, they could appear at the forest area of Trailhead Field after the game's ending. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, a female Zoroark was said to hail from the Tech Area and explored the Poképark in search of somewhere to live. This Zoroark initially helped in bringing Pokémon to the PokéPark until she learned of its true nature and disappeared. She was battled in the Wish Park and after being rescued, appeared at Windmill Way in the Arbor Area and was befriended by the player.

Other Media

  • A Zoroark mother was featured in the thirteenth movie of the Pokémon anime, where Grings Kodai kidnapped her Zorua son and forced her to repeatedly attack Crown City disguised as the three legendary dogs which protected the city. This brought it into conflict with the real versions of the Crown Beasts. After this misunderstanding was cleared up, Zoroark worked with Ash and his friends to bring down Kodai. Zoroark almost died of wounds in the aftermath, but Celebi was able to revive her, at which point the Zoroark was truly reunited with her son.

Trivia

  • Its name is a combination of "zorro" (the Spanish word for fox) and "dark".
  • Zorua and Zoroark were the first Pokémon of the fifth generation to be publicly revealed, before Black and White were officially announced.
