Uxie is one of the three legendary lake guardian Pokémon that were featured in the fourth generation games. It represents knowledge and is related to Mesprit and Azelf.

Information[edit]

These three Pokémon were created by Arceus early on to control Dialga and Palkia, and it is believed that they were all born from the same egg. They effectively bound time and space, and they could do so by creating a Red Chain with crystals made in their bodies. Out of the three of them, Uxie was the Being of Knowledge. It is said that when Uxie flew, it humans the intelligence to solve problems and improve the quality of their lives. However, it is also dangerous in its own right as Uxie can wipe out the memory of those who see its eyes.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Diamond, Pearl and Platinum Versions, Uxie was found at Lake Acuity. It was initially captured by Team Galactic after they set off their Galactic Bomb at Lake Valor, and they used it to make a Red Chain (as well as second artificial Red Chain in Platinum). Lucas/Dawn later set them free, and they worked together to destroy the Red Chain to stop Cyrus's attempt to control Dialga or Palkia in Diamond/Pearl. In Platinum, they were unable to break both chains due to the combined power of Dialga and Palkia, but they later appeared within the Distortion World to act as guides for the player. Uxie then returned to the cave in Lake Acuity, where it could be battled and possibly captured.

Other Games[edit]

Uxie also has a role in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, where it protected a Time Gear at Fogbound Lake. It was originally suggested to have caused the player's amnesia, but Uxie denied this. The Uxie could be challenged and recruited after the main storyline was complete. Uxie also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Rocky Cave and Bright Beach when playing in EX Mode.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In the Super Smash Bros. series, Uxie made a cameo appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at the Spear Pillar stage. Within the stage, Uxie had a chance of appearing in the background (along with the other lake guardians) and would eventually teleport away without any effect on gameplay. In Brawl, its appearance was accompanied by a trophy. In Ultimate, the three lake guardian Pokémon shared an Ace-rank Primary Spirit that also boosted PSI attack power. When fought against in a Spirit battle, the Spirit of Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf would possess a trio of Mewtwo (with color variations to match their respective colors) in a battle where their special attacks had enhanced power, and they would heal themselves after taking high damage.

In Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, the lake guardians were featured in a three-part episode that concluded the Team Galactic story arc. Uxie made just one earlier appearance which established its connection with Brock. During the episodes, Uxie and Mesprit appeared after Pokémon Hunter J captured Azelf for Team Galactic in attempt to save it. Although they also wound up being captured, Uxie and Mesprit were still able to release a Future Sight attack beforehand which later destroyed J's ship. Uxie reached out to Brock, and after Brock saved it, they worked together in calming Dialga and Palkia alongside the other lake guardians, whom had each paired with a different menber of Ash's group. Uxie returned to its lake afterwards.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, the lake guardians were featured during the Diamond/Pearl arc where they were captured similarly to the games. Uxie shared a connection with Platina, and it was revealed that she had encountered Uxie as a child but did not remember it (possible due to Uxie's memory-erasing abilities). At Team Galactic's headquarters, the three trainers worked together to free the lake guardians after the Red Chain had been completed.

Trivia[edit]

  • Uxie's name is possibly a combination of "you" (as the English names for the other guardians contain "me" and "us") with "pixie". As it is close to its Japanese name, its name could also be derived from "yukusaki" (which refers to the future) and "chishiki" (which means "knowledge").
