Hippopotas is a sand-dwelling hippopotamus-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. Its evolved form is Hippowdon.
Information
Hippopotas lives in arid places and enshrouds itself with stand to protect itself from germs. They even expel grainy sand from their bodies instead of perspiration. Hippopotas nature dislike getting wet. Hippopotas usually form colonies of ten and travel easily through the sands of the desert. A Hippopotas travels through sand as if it were walking and shuts its nostrils tight while doing so.
It evolves into Hippowdon at Level 34.

Mainstream Games
In Pokémon: Diamond, Pearl and Platinum Version|Platinum Versions, Hippopotas could only be found in the Ruin Maniac's Cave/Tunnel. It was initially rare but became more common as the cave extended into a tunnel. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could appear at the Safari Zone's Desert area if enough Rock objects were present. In Black and White, they appeared at Route 4 during swarms.

Other Games
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Hippopotas could be recruited at the third through tenth floors of Quicksand Pit. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, they appeared at the Hippowdon Temple. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it was found at Layuda Island and the Fire Temple. Hippopotas also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at the Bright Beach.

- In the Pokémon anime, the same Hippopotas was featured in two different episodes of the Sinnoh series. In its first appearance, Ash's group reunited the lost Hippopotas to its tribe while protecting it from Jessie and James of Team Rocket. The second episode involved Ash's group helping the Hippopotas and his Hippowdon father when Butch and Cassidy targeted them. Other Hippopotas have made more minor appearances in other episodes.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, a Hippopotas was used by a Gentleman at the Seven Stars Restaurant in battle with the main characters during the Diamond/Pearl arc.
