Trapinch is a giant-jawed Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the first in a three-stage evolutionary line, with its evolved forms being Vibrava and Flygon.
Information
Trapinch is most accustomed to arid environments such as deserts in particular. They dig inescapable pits in sand and patiently wait for prey to stumble into the trap. They can survive for a week without any water, and their large jaws are strong enough to break through boulders. Trapinch's large head is also a disadvantage, as if it tips over onto its back it will have a hard time getting back up.
It evolves into Vibrava at Level 35.
Appearances
Mainstream Games
In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Trapinch could be commonly found at Route 111, and in Emerald it also appeared at Mirage Tower up to the fourth floor. In Diamond and Pearl, it could appear at Route 228 when using the Pokéradar. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could appear at the Safari Zone's Desert area when enough Rock objects were present. In White, it was found at the White Forest.
Other Games
In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Trapinch could be rarely found at the Rock Pokéspot, and after being caught it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it could be hatched from an egg. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Phobos Drill, Endless Level 27, Forever Level 27 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the sixth through ninth floors of Silent Chasm, the twenty-first through twenty-eighth floors of Wish Cave, the first eleven floors of Desert Region and the twenty-first through twenty-fourth floors of Joyous Tower. Trapinch was also recruitable in Explorers of Time and Darkness at the Northern Desert.
Other Appearances

Aside from this episode, Trapinch have mostly made minor appearances.

Trivia
- Its name seems to be just a combination of "trap" and "pinch".
- Trapinch seems to be based on the larval form of the antlion, which has a similar tendency to hide in sandy pits.
