Todd is the young Pokémon photographer who is featured as the main character of Pokémon Snap.
Background
Todd was a traveling photographer who took pictures of various Pokémon. He once encountered a Mew in his travels, but the Mew was so quick that he only got passing shots of the Mew's tail. One day, Todd received a letter from Professor Oak. Oak was doing research on the native species on Pokémon Island. He thought to ask Trainers to assist him in his research, but became worried that they'd become interested in catching the Pokémon. Therefore it was necessary for him to enlist Todd's help.
Todd's goal was to take pictures of ever single native species on Pokemon Island, to help him complete his PKMN Report. Since Todd's expertise was wildlife, he seemed like a natural choice. Todd arrived in Pallet Town, and visited Oak's Lab. There, the Pokemon professor revealed his new machine, the Zero-One, to assist Todd in photographing the Pokémon. Todd was loaded with Pokémon Food and Pester Balls, bugspray filled balls.
Traveling down the beach, through the tunnel, though the smoldering volcano, down a peaceful river, through the cave, and down the rapids, Todd captured photographs of all of the island's native 62 Pokemon. Then Oak revealed something in his valley laboratory. There was a seventh part of the island, Rainbow Cloud. Here lay Todd's greatest challenge, Mew. This time Todd was prepared. Through the entire level, he attacked the Mew with Pester Balls, until its shield broke, allowing it to be photographed. Oak had his PKMN Report, and Todd had his reputation as the person who captured the legendary Mew—on film.
Other Appearances
- Todd is originally from the Pokémon anime, where he traveled with Ash's group for three episodes. Todd also made guest appearances in later seasons. Along with Jessie and James, Todd is one of the few characters incorporated from the anime.
- Todd appeared in the Emerald arc for the Pokémon Adventures manga, where he is a press photographer covering the opening of Hoenn's Battle Frontier. He becomes more or less Emerald's sidekick, following him around and constantly questioning his bizarre decisions and behavior. He also works with Emerald's Latias and Latios friends after being introduced to them. At the end of the arc, Professor Oak is shown to be intrigued by his photos, leading him to contact Todd about taking pictures for him on, implying that this leads into
Pokémon Snap.
