Tetris Attack (known as Yoshi no Panepon or Yoshi's Panepon in Japan) is an edited version of the puzzle game Panel De Pon, which had only been released in Japan. Tetris Attack replaces the fairy characters from the original game with Yoshi and various characters from the recently-released Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

Story

The story mode contains a story involving Bowser using Kamek's magic to flood the world and brainwash all of Yoshi's friends into following Bowser. Yoshi must travel across the various islands and free his friends by defeating them in battle. Afterwards, he must enter the Cave of Horrors for a final showdown with Bowser and his minions.

Gameplay

This puzzle game involves rows of block that rise from the bottom of the screen rather then falling from the top. The player must arrange the rows so that similar blocks are matched and eliminated. If the blocks reach the top of the screen, the game is over.

Legacy

Tetris Attack has inspired other edited variations on Panel de Pon, such as Pokémon Puzzle League.

Remakes

  • The Super NES version was released over the Satellaview in Japan. This is the only way it was available in Japan.
  • In Japan, the Game Boy version was later released for download over the Nintendo Power system.
  • In Japan, the Game Boy version was released for the 3DS Virtual Console in 2013.
