Background
Tana was the princess of Frelia, born to King Hayden. She was raised alongside her competitive older brother Innes. They met Ephraim and Eirika for the first time at one of Tana's birthday celebrations, although Ephriam and Innes spent most of the day competing. The four became close, and Tana came to envy how close a bond the twins had compared to herself and Innes. Hayden and Innes were both protective of Tana and wanted to keep her from danger. Tana still eventually began training as a pegasus knight with the help of Syrene, whom she considered to be her mentor and akin to an older sister.
When the War of the Stones began with Grado's sudden invasion of Renias, Tana was concerned for her friends and went to Mulan near the Frelia-Renais border in hopes of helping them. Her recklessness almost doomed her, as Grado soldiers were able to claim the castle and held her captive. Eirika's group was able to work with Gilliam to rescue her in "Chapter 1; Escape!", and they all returned to Castle Frelia afterwards. Hayden was worried by this incident and forbade Tana from leaving without his permission. Before Eirika left to continue her campaign, Tana voiced her concerns and wondered what had gone wrong in Grado to start this war. They were only reunited following "Chapter 8: It's a Trap!" when Eirika and Ephraim regrouped at Castle Frelia, and they were joined by Innes. Tana had stayed there the whole time, worrying for her friends. After they all left, she missed them due to how abruptly they had left. She also wanted a part in this noble cause, so she decided to take matters into her own hands and sneaked out of the castle, hoping to help one of her friends.
Tana's exact reappearance depends on the path. In "Chapter 9: A Distant Blade" in Eirika's path, she met with Eirika at Carcino and was able to quickly convince her to let her join her forces. In Ephraim's path, she instead followed Ephraim to Fort Rigwald in "Chapter 9: Fort Rigwald" and was captured by Grado forces. Tana had to be freed first before she talked Ephraim into letting her help them. She developed her skills as they traveled, and she also could recruit Cormag in Ephraim's path. Tana was also reunited with Syrene and Innes as the army grew (and eventually Ephraim and Eirkika's groups re-merged), with Syrene being impressed by her growth while Innes was reluctant to allow her on the battlefield. When the war ended, Tana was glad that it was over with and eager to report this back to her father.
Possible Fates
Tana has four different endings depending on whether or not she reaches an A Rank Support with one of the following characters:
- Default Ending - Tana lived happily in Frelia, which prospered following the war. She often flew to Renais to visit Eirika.
- Cormag and Tana's Ending - Tana spent years searching for Cormag after he left Grado. She eventually found him and knighted him in Frelia's service.
- Eirika and Tana's Ending - They remained close friends following the war and continued to visit each other when time permitted. When they grew older, their children shared a bond of friendship as close as their own.
- Ephraim and Tana's Ending - Ephraim and Tana married once Renais's stability was restored. Innes initially protested this union until he saw how happy Tana was, at which point he gave them his blessings. This caused Renais and Frelia to be bound by blood in addition to friendship.
Support Conversation Summaries
Tana is capable of having support conversations with six other characters:
- Cormag - They meet up, and Cormag asks her not to refer to him using honorifics, saying that he did not know she was a princess at first. She suggests working together to avoid archers due to their steeds' mutual vulnerability to arrows as a type of buddy system. She points out how hard it would be for their voices to carry out while in the air, so they agree to have their steeds cry as signals. In the second conversation, Tana thanks Cormag for warning her of an archer the other day, but he explains that the wyvern had warned her independently before he had noticed. They talk about the close bonds which wyverns and pegasii form with their riders and mourn the toll that the war was taking on such creatures. This leads Cormag to reflect on the absurdity of war, and after Tana expressed her desire for everyone to live, Cormag pointed out that soldiers like him were pointless next to the regal people like Tana. Tana refused to accept this and made Corma promise not to throw his life away. In the final conversation, Tana asks Cormag what he is fighting for, because she saw him fighting earlier, and it made her sad. Cormag reviews various potential reasons why a man would fight but ultimately admits that he does not know what he is fighting for anymore. She asks what he plans to do after the war, and Cormag intends to help rebuild Grado but does not know what to do beyond that. Tana suggests that he come to Frelia as an airborne knight and explains that he is no longer considered a traitor as he is someone who is loyal to his beliefs to the point where it has made him sad. Cormag turns the offer down because he will not reforge his oaths, and he muses working in a woodshop instead. Tana promises she will ask him again there if so. Cormag notices how unusually strong willed she is and decided to think her offer over.
- Eirika - In the first conversation they ride together and Eirika helps Tana to assuage her doubts in her abilities. Tana tells Eirika that she sees her as a sister and more mature despite being the same age and that Eirika gave her courage, the very courage that inspired her to leave the castle and join their group. Eirika is also glad Tana came because she reminds her of better times. In the next conversation, Tana complains about Innes's teasing of her abilities, but Eirika assures her that it is just Innes's way of showing concern. Tana than admits that she envies the connection between Ephraim and Eirika, and wishes that she had that connection with Innes, although Eirika says that they are not like normal siblings due to being twins. In the final conversation Eirika tells Tana that her skills have improved greatly. They then discuss relaxing together after the war and reporting to King Hayden, with Eirika assuring her that they would speak to him together.
- Ephraim - In the first conversation Ephraim asks Tana to stay behind due to the threat poised by enemy archers, but Tana insists that she feels safer when she is near him and promises that she will not be a burden and could defend herself. Ephraim reluctantly allows Tana to fight alongside her. In the next conversation, Tana asks Ephraim about the first time they met at a birthday celebration, which Ephraim also remembers at his first meeting with Innes. Tana asks Ephraim his opinion about Tana's wardrobe and hair that day but Ephraim only recalls details related to dueling with Innes, due to his persistence. Tana eventually gets angry at him for only remembering her brother, taking this as meaning he does not care for her, and then flies off due to being tried of caring for him when he does not care for her. In the final conversation, Tana asks Ephraim to take a break with her, not seeming to remember her previous outburst as Ephraim notes. She asks him to eat with her, but Ephraim reminds her that this is a battlefield and they could eat but not let their guards down. She points out that he is always formal and detached about everything, and when Ephraim asks if something is wrong she says that it is Ephraim's fault for always keeping his distance when she talks to him and never opening up to her. Ephraim says this is not true, and Tana asks if there is someone else, which only confuses Ephraim. She tells Ephraim that he makes her very sad because she only wants to be near him more and more. Ephraim realizes Tana is still a child at heart and says that it is a compliment due to her words having such a simple and honest purity, admitting that he appreciates her affection. Ephraim tells Tana that he could make more time for her but they could not stop and chat on the battlefield due to being obligated to stopping the war first.
- Innes - The conversation begins when Tana meets with Innes and volunteers to protect him, but he dimisses her and asks her to return to Frelia. Even if she is a pegasus knight who trained with Syrene and Vanessa, Innes does not believe that a Frelian princess should be fighting. In the next conversation, Tana has managed to prove her experience on the battlefield and improved their strategies, but Innes is still concerned due to her naivete. She is more worried about him because even though he had good judgement, he was too blunt for most people to stand him. Innes uses Ephraim as an example of someone who could take advantage of her, and she begins to ask him if he really thinks she is interested in him. Innes recants this and tells her that he simply does not want to see her get hurt. Tana is annoyed by this and refuses to talk to him anymore. In the final conversation, Innes calls her stubborn, but Tana insists that he is the stubborn one. She thinks that they should get along more instead of arguing all the time and envies how close Ephraim and Eirika are.She accuses him of not trying to understand her well enough, but Innes insists that this is not true and reminds her of the time she lost their father's crown. Innes had been able to find the crown and took the blame for having lost it, which made Tana feel like the luckiest sister in the world. Tana wants Innes to forgive her for not going home because she wants to be near her brother, and Inne finally relents and allows her to stay. He expects her to apologize to King Hayden when they return hom and not worry too much because he will be there when she does. Tana calls him the best brother, and Innes calls her a handful.
- Marisa - In an attempt to be friendly, Tana praises Marisa for fighting for them and not just being a cutthroat like most mercenaries, but Marisa insists she fights for the sake of fighting and doesn't care about Tana's opinion. When they speak again, Marisa is surprised to see Tana's pegasus up close. Tana explains the finer details of her steed and how it was named by her mentor, Syrene. Though Tana hopes to one day pass on what she learned, Marisa expresses no such interest. When they speak last, Tana comments on Marisa's training and suggests that she might be working too hard to achieve her goal. However Marisa asks why the princess is wasting her time speaking to a mercenary, but Tana insists that the two of them are friends now and that Marisa doesn't need to call her by her title.
- Syrene - Syrene scolds Tala for leaving Frelia without a word and tells her how sad Hayden was. Tala feels bad because of this, but at the same time she is annoyed by all the measures that Hayden had taken to protect her and wants some privacy. They begin to reminisce about how well they got along when they were younger and Syrene protected her after graduating from the academy. Tala thinks back fondly at the times when Syrene was like an older sister, and she had become lonely when Syrene was promoted to the pegasus nights. Tana is still glad that Syrene had risen so high, as it meant that they could be together on the battlefield, and they agreed to continue reminiscing later. In the next conversation, the two go over the fun they had the other night, and Syrene notes how Tana has matured and become more serious. Tana tells Syrene that she had learned from her strength and pride as pegasus knight and her kindness as a human being. Tana then asks Syrene if she could teach her how to cook so that she could cook her parents a proper meal after the war as an apology for running off. Syrene does not consider herself to be that skilled a cook, but she knows how to make some traditional Frelian dishes and agrees to teaching Tana. In the final conversation, Syrene compliments Tana on her first meals, which the other soldiers enjoyed as well. They tell each other to take care of themselves, and Tana tells Syrene to fulfill her duty of protecting her so they could go back home together. Syrene points out the danger of the battlefield and asks Tana to make sure that she returns home safely if something happens to her. Tana tells Syrene that she is like a real sister to her, so she cannot die and must return to Frelia with her no matter what. Syrene ultimately promises that they will return to Frelia together.
