Beldum is a magnetically-charged iron Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the first in a three-stage evolutionary line, with its evolved forms being Metang and Metagross.
Information
Beldum uses a magnetic force that repels Earth's natural magnetism to float through the air. It also has a powerful magnetic force coursing through its body instead of blood, and every cell of its body is magnetic. Beldum communicate with others by sending out controlled pulses of magnetism, which is also described as their brain waves. When they gather in a swarm, Beldum will move together in perfect unison as if they were one Pokémon. Beldum uses the hooks on its rear to anchor itself to a cliff when it goes to sleep.
It can evolve into Metang at Level 20. This process is apparently done through two Beldum fusing together (although only one Beldum is required and is effected within gameplay).
Appearances
Mainstream Games
In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Steven Stone will leave a Beldum for the player at his home with Mossdeep City after the player becomes the Pokémon League's champion. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, they appeared commonly at Route 228 during swarms.
In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could appear at the Safari Zone's Forest area if enough Rock objects were present, and Steven Stone would also eventually offer one in a trade for Forretress. Beldum could also be caught through the Pokéwalker at the Winner's Path course, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold/SoulSilver.
Other Games
In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it appeared at the Ruins. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at the Phobosphere, Endless Level 46, Forever Level 46 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the sixth through eighth floors of Mt. Steel, the fifteenth through seventh floors of Wish Cave and Solar Cave and the fourteenth through seventeenth floors of Joyous Tower. In Pokémon Ranger, it could be found at the Jungle Relic and Go-Rock Squad Base. It could also be recruited in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness at Crystal Cave. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, Beldum was found at the Wireless Tower and Thunder Temple.
Other Appearances
Other Media
- In the Pokémon anime, Beldum was featured as the main Pokémon of Morrison in several episodes of the Hoenn series. He used it to compete with Ash's Pikachu. Its main disadvantage was that it only knew Take Down, but it was still able to evolve into Metang while fighting at the Ever Grande Conference. Other Beldum have appeared in more minor appearances.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Steven Stone was shown to own several Beldum during the Ruby/Sapphire arc. They were used to help awaken the legendary Golem Pokémon.
Trivia
- Its name is a play on "dumbbell" (which is also an iron weight and which it vaguely resembles).
