Snivy is the first Pokémon of the Unova Pokédex (though technically proceeded by its Pokémon number zero Victini) and is the grass-type Pokémon starter Pokémon for the fifth generation Pokémon: Black and White Versions. It is the first in a three-stage evolutionary line, with its evolved forms being Servine and Serperior.

Information

Snivy is a Pokémon that resembles a smug snake with arms and legs, as well as a leaf-like formation on the tip of its tail. It is known for being intelligent and calm. They photosynthesize by bathing their tails in sunlight, and their tails droop when they are not feeling well. Being exposed to lots of sunlight makes their movements faster.

Snivy evolves into Servine at Level 17.

Appearances

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, Snivy is one of the three starter Pokémon sent to the player's house in Nuvema Town by Professor Juniper at the beginning of the game which the player has to choose from. If the player chooses a different starter Pokémon, the Snivy goes to Cheren (if Oshawott is chosen) or Bianca (if Tepig is chosen).

Other Games

Snivy appeared in Pokémon Rumble Blast where it could be befriended at the Beginner's Park, the forest areas of Trailhead Field and Echo Valley, and the autumnwood area of Volcanic Slope. Snivy was also featured in PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond as one of the main playable characters (with the other options being Pikachu and the other two fifth generation starters), where its special ability was to double jump by using Leaf Tornado.

Other Appearances

Other Media

  • In the Black/White series of the Pokémon anime, Snivy has been shown as the starter Pokémon of the new rival character Trip, who was able to defeat Ash's veteran Pikachu with the Pokémon freshly received from Professor Juniper, although this was partly due to Pikachu's electric attacks being temporarily disabled by Zekrom. It surprisingly evolved into Servine within five episodes, before Ash's group even reached the first gym. Ash later caught a wild Snivy in an episode which revolved around the female Snivy using Attract to keep Ash's primarily male Pokémon from attacking her until Ash used his Pidove, which was of the same gender. Ash's Snivy has been shown to be mature but emotionally withdrawn with an unknown past.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Snivy was shown as Cheren's starter Pokémon during the Black/White arc, and Bianca chose it for him because she believed that it resembled him.

Trivia

  • Its name is a combination of "snake" and "ivy".
