Wario World is a Gamecube game notable for being the first adventure game in the Wario series on a home console. It was released around the same time as WarioWare Inc.:Mega Microgame$ and demos for the game can be unlocked.
Story
Wario is in his castle enjoying his enormous wealth when one day one of his treasures, the Black Jewel took over. Unknown to Wario, the jewel had actually been an ancient evil imprisoned by the Spritelings a thousand years ago. After it took over, the Black Jewel transformed Wario's castle into different lands and his treasures into monsters. Eager to get all his treasure back and get revenge on the Black Jewel, Wario is forced to collect all his treasures back, free the Spritelings, and defeat the Black Jewel.
Gameplay
Although the game is 3D, it plays from a 2.5D perspective that features a fixed camera tilted slightly overhead. Wario again has his health meter from Wario Land 4, but lacks any of his staple powerups. Instead Wario relies entirely on brute strength to punch, throw, and piledrive the enemy. Although Wario often has tons of baddies to fight, the game is mostly focused on gameplay.
As with most Wario games, one of the main goals is collecting as much treasure as possible. Throughout each of the eight level, there are trap doors that can be broken into. Inside these are rooms filled with complex block-based puzzle rooms. By reaching the top, Wario will be able to find one of the treasure in the level. Unlike the rest of the game, Wario can alter the camera from four different sides of the room to help him solve the puzzle.
In the levels, Wario must also find boxes containing Spritelings. Only by collecting them all can Wario defeat the Black Jewel completely at the end of the game. The game itself is composed of four worlds. Each world is divided into two levels and a world boss. Each level has it's own boss fight as well, making for a total of 12 boss fights throughout the entire game plus the final boss at the very end
Trivia
- WarioWare Inc.:Mega Microgame$ Demos - Using a Game Boy Advance and a Link-Up Cable, 10 microgames can be unlocked in the game for play on the GBA. These are found by collecting special tokens that are fragments of a vase. When these vases are constructed, they are pottery with sketches of a Gamecube. Gameboy Advance, and a Link-Up-Cable.
