Smithy is an evil machine of unknown origin who lives at the heart of Smithy's Factory. He stands by the Smelter and melds the machines that are then sent off to the production line. He is obsessed with weapons and has designed many powerful machines resembling weapons- Mack, Bowyer, Yaridovich, the Axem Rangers, Boomer and others. Smithy is also incredibly powerful, but he keeps his true form a secret. His disguised form has a beard to disguise his hideous face.

Background

During Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Smithy sends his machines out to invade the land. When he learns of the wish-granting Star Pieces, he orders his minions to find them at all costs. Smithy only winds up with one Star Piece, which he binds to his chest. The other six are claimed by Mario and his group as they travel the land, destroying Smithy's machines as they encounter them.

Eventually Mario, Princess Peach, Bowser, Mallow and Geno make their way into Smithy's inner sanctum. After attempting in vain to talk Smithy out of world domination, a fight breaks out. Smithy is beaten, but he refuses to accept defeat so quickly. In his temper tantrum, he destroys the floor of the room which was built the day before and sends everyone tumbling down to some deep, dark, scary room of machine parts. There Smithy casts off his beard to reveal his true face- a giant rectangular, angry-looking one. The true fight begins.

Smithy shows one deadly power during this battle- every now and then he can change his head into a different head with different powers. He has a Tank Head which can blast deadly projectiles, a Magic Head that has the most powerful magic attacks ever but no defense, a Vault Head that is thick enough to repel almost any attack and a Box Head which, like a Treasure Box, opens up to unleash a different plague each time.

Despite his efforts, Smithy lost the battle. His body exploded, leaving behind the last Star Piece. With Smithy gone and the Star Road rebuilt, Mario's latest quest had come to a close, and peace returned to the Mushroom Kingdom for a while.

Smithy was also seen in the ending parade riding a Blade float, but it could easily have just been an actor in a costume.

Trivia

• In his first form Smithy has 2000 HP. In his second form his head has 8000 HP, while his body has 1000 HP; his body cannot be destroyed and regains its power several turns after running out of HP.
• His Japanese name is Kajioo (Kaji being Japanese for blacksmith).
