Felix is a supporting character and apparent antagonist in Golden Sun who is then featured as the main playable character in Golden Sun: The Lost Age.

Background

Felix spent his early childhood in his hometown of Vale, being raised alongside his sister Jenna. He also spent time with their friends Isaac and Garet, and he was born with Psynergy powers. However, Felix's entire life changed one day when Vale was seized by a violent and deadly storm. Felix himself, still just a child, wound up trapped in a raging river, clinging to a rock while crying. His parents and Isaac's father Kyle all did their best to try to reach him. They were just making a breakthrough when suddenly a giant boulder tumbled down from Mount Aleph, leaving no traces of Felix or any of the parents after it passed. They were all believed dead, but they actually had been saved by Saturos and Menardi, the two mysterious figures whom had accidentally set off the storm during their attempt to infilrate Aleph's Sol Sanctum. Saturos brought them all back to his own homeland of Prox. He saw Felix's abilities as useful since they needed a wider range of Psynergies in their quest, so he decided that his parents as well as Isaac's father would be kept in Prox as hostages in order to force Felix into helping them.

Living at Prox for the next three years, Felix spent this time being trained and prepared for the journey that Saturos and Menardi were planning. They foresaw that the world would end eventually due to the seal on Alchemy, and Prox itself was in immediate danger from dropping temperatures due to Mars Lighthouse being inactive. So their solution was to steal the four Elemental Stars that were hidden in Sol Sanctum and use them to reactivate their matching elemental lighthouses, which would properly restore Alchemy to the world. Once Felix knew the whole story, he was truly willing to help them, although he took issue with some of Saturos and Menardi's crueller methods. They were also joined by a fourth man, the enigmatic Mercury Adept Alex.

Golden Sun

The time eventually came for them to return to Vale, three years after Felix had been presumed dead. Felix disguised himself with a mask and spoke to no one at Vale in order to prevent drawing attention while Saturos and Menardi manipulated the elderly local scholar Kraden into exploring the Sol Sanctum. Kraden wound up bringing Isaac, Garet and Jenna with him, while Saturos, Menardi and Felix followed them secretly. Eventually they reached the chamber containing the Elemental Stars. Isaac and Garet had grabbed three of the Elemental Stars when they revealed themselves, with Saturos taking Jenna and Kraden as hostages to get them to hand over the stars. Felix revealed his identity in order to gain their trust, and they thus received the first three Stars. However, when Isaac and Garet grabbed the fourth and final one, they awoke the Wise One and caused Mount Aleph to begin erupting. Saturos decided to abandon Isaac and Garet as well as the Mars Star, taking Jenna and Kraden with them as insurance in case they did survive. Felix was glad to be reunited with Jenna, but he did not like that she was being forced into the ordeal. He did come to respect Kraden as a mentor.

The group made it to their first destination, Mercury Lighthouse, and they were able to light it with Alex's help. Menardi then evacuated him, Jenna and Kraden just as Isaac's group arrived to confront Saturos. They then made their way across Gondowan to reach the Venus Lighthouse. Along the way, they captured a young girl Sheba to use as a hostage. Felix also objected to this, although Saturos promised him that she would be released when they reached the lighthouse. They eventually reached the lighthouse. Partway up, Felix was sent back to wait at Idejima with Jenna and Kraden while Saturos and Menardi lit the beacon with Sheba. However, Felix wanted to ensure Sheba's release, so he parted with Jenna partway down the lighthouse and went up to the aerie before Saturos and Menardi had used the Venus Star. Felix realized that Saturos had lied and would still need Sheba to reach Jupiter Lighthouse. He argued for her release, but this only led Saturos to distrust him, and they were on the verge of fighting when Isaac's group arrived. Despite their argument, Felix remained squarely on Saturos and Menardi's side due to knowing the importance of lighting the four lighthouse beacons. After they deceived Isaac's group to claim the Shaman's Rod from them, Saturos and Menardi entrusted it to Felix (who also had the remaining Elemental stars on his person) while they battled Isaac's group. He was then told to evacuate with Sheba after they lit the beacon and transformed. However, Felix remained close enough to witness Saturos and Menardi's death following their final defeat by Isaac's hands.

At that point, Isaac's group were ready to accost Felix. Felix still had two of the Elemental Stars and was continued to continue the quest to light the beacons in Saturos and Menardi's place. Before Isaac could reach him, a violent tremor split the lighthouse into several pieces and separated them, while knocking Sheba off the edge. Sheba wound up falling, and Felix jumped off after her in an attempt to save her. Fortunately for both of them, a high tide that was also caused by the lighthouse being ignited saved them. It wound up conveniently carrying them straight to the shore of Idejima, which had split off from Gondowan as a result of the tremors, and they were discovered by Alex, Jenna and Kraden after they washed ashore.

The Lost Age

They barely had time to catch up when they were all knocked out by Idejima's collison with the continent of Indra. Felix awoke first and quickly roused Jenna, Sheba and Kraden. With Alex missing in action, Felix was truly left in control of the group and began leading them across Indra and Osenia in search of a ship that they could use to reach the last two lighthouses, as well as the secondary goal that they formed along the way, which was seeking the lost civilization of Lemuria. They eventually met the sailor Piers and helped him to prove his innocence by bringing in the real pirate, Briggs. Felix's group wound up meeting Piers again in Gondowan, where he was seeking the orb that he needed to control his own ship, as it turned out that he himself as a Lemurian. They retireved his orb and convinced Piers to join the group. They then made their way to the East Indra Shore and sailed off from there, along the way hearing that Isaac had gone through the area looking for them. Once at sea, they began seeking everything they needed to reach Lemuria, which was the directions to get through the whirlpools and the pieces of the Trident, which they needed to battle Poseidon. Along the way, they also ran into Alex, who was working independently and had brought in the Proxians Agatio and Karst as his replacements for Saturos and Menardi. Alex's new companions openly threatened Felix's group, but they posed no immediate threat. Felix and his group were eventually able to make their way towards Lemuria and defeat Poseidon, and there they had the truth confirmed for them about the Proxian theory that the world would be destroyed unless Alchemy was restored. They left Lemuria with a newfound determination to find the last lighthouses.

Their next stop was the Jupiter Lighthouse, at long last, but their climb came with several complications. Partway up the lighthouse, they found that Isaac's group was also exploring the lighthouse and were caught in a trap by Agatio and Karst, who were ready to kill them. With Alex's support, Felix and his companions stepped in to challenge them. He demanded that Isaac be spared, which Agatio and Karst only reluctantly allowed. They did have Felix take the Mars Star from Isaac, although Isaac freely gave it to Felix due to trusting him. Agatio and Karst then finally demanded that only the pair of them accompany Felix to the top of the tower to light the beacon while his companions tended to Isaac and his group. Felix once more reluctantly complied. They were successful in lighting the lighthouse, but at that point Agatio and Karst turned on him, fully prepared to double team and kill him after taking the Mars Star from him. He was not alone in battle for long, however, as Jenna, Sheba and Piers all separately realized that something was up and came up to the aerie to help him. They defeated Agatio and Karst, and they were left wondering whether or not they should kill the pair of them. Alex wound up answering the question for them by taking Agatio and Karst away to safety. With that ordeal overcome for the time being, Felix's group was then called to a meeting with Isaac's group, where they finally explained their side of the story to Isaac. With Isaac's group finally aware of the danger that the seal on Alchemy posed to the world, it was decided that Isaac and Felix's groups would work together in order to activate the final lighthouse, as they were uncertain if Karst and Agatio were up to the task. Their ship was modified with wings, which rendered it capable of flight and allowed them to progress even further into Weyard.

Felix and Isaac traveled north to Prox, where they related the news of Saturos and Menardi's death, and they also learned that Agatio and Karst had gone ahead to the lighthouse. Puelle also told Felix that he had planned to release the captive parents upon his return, except that they had gone missing. The two groups then headed straight for the Mars Lighthouse. As they ascended the lighthouse, they were eventually attacked by a pair of Flame Dragons. They defeated both of them, only for them to revert into a dying Agatio and Karst, whom had been forcibly transformed. Before dying, they gave the Mars Star to Felix. They then finally made their way to the lighthouse's aerie and were ready to ignite the beacon when the Wise One suddenly showed up to stop them. He warned them of the threats of unleashing Alchemy and also alerted them of Alex's intentions of taking the power of the Golden Sun once it is formed. When they still demanded that the Wise One move out of their way, he warned them that while he was not allowed to directly interfere with them, a "miracle" could stop them. He then summoned a three-headed Doom Dragon to battle them. They were able to destroy the Doom Dragon after an ardous battle, at which point it reverted into its dying human forms, revealing that they were Felix and Jenna's parents as well as Kyle's father, having been forcibly transformed by the Wise One. Whether or not Felix was aware of this during the battle is decided by the player. Despite the trauma, it was decided that they had to keep calm and carry on in finishing their adventure. With everyone else supporting him, Felix placed the Mars Star in the beacon, lighting the last lighthouse and bringing about the Golden Sun.

They then wound up retreating from Mars Lighthouse to avoid the cataclysmic after-effects and recovered in Prox. In the meantime, it was discovered that the rays of the Golden Sun had actually brought their parents back to life. The two groups and the rediscovered parents then made their way back to Vale as one last journey. Felix was initially shellshocked upon finding Vale in ruins and tried to find away to comfort Isaac and Garet's families. However, it shortly afterwards came to light that their families as well as the rest of the villagers had been able to retreat to safety.

Felix's fate afterwards is unknown. All that is known from Dark Dawn is that he left his homeland on a journey after the Golden Sun's awakening and was never seen again.

Abilities

Felix is a Venus Adept, which makes him attuned to earth-based Psynergies. However, most of his abilities are a variable depending on his class (which can change depending on which Djinn are assigned to him) and which special items he has equipped. The only Psynergies that he automatically knows or learns over the course of the game are Move and Sand, the latter of which is a special Psynergy that he learns at Gaia Rock. In battle, he wields light blades, long swords, maces and axes.

Trivia

  • According to his and Jenna's grandfather, Felix inherited his Psynergy from his father.
  • In Dark Dawn, he is also mentioned in the Sun Saga books, which act as an in-universe summary of the events of the first two games. The books specifically refer to Felix as evil and on par with Alex as being an evil mastermind with sinister motives behind lighting the lighthouses. This most likely indicates that Felix is considered a criminal by the majority of Weyard.
  • Felix has dialogue in the first game, but he then becomes the silent protagonist of The Lost Age (with Isaac suddenly having full dialogue). Felix only speaks several lines at the very end of that game (after Jenna specifically tells him to "say something!", making a possible metatextual reference).
