Sewaddle is a small leaf-adorned caterpillar-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. It is the first in a three-step evolutionary line, with its evolved forms being Swadloon and Leavanny.

Information

Sewaddle are usually cared for by Leavanny mothers which make clothes for them after they hatch. As they grow, Sewaddle usually make their own clothes. They chew up leaves and sew them using sticky thread from its mouth. Its primary clothing seems to be the leaf hood that it wears. Sewaddle hide their heads in their hoods while sleeping.

A Sewaddle evolves into Swadloon at Level 20.

Appearances

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, Sewaddle was commonly found in Pinwheel Forest.

Other Appearances

Other Media

  • In the Pokémon anime, Ash initially met a Sewaddle while traveling through Pinwheel Forest, and after failing to catch it, it turned out that the Sewaddle was traveling alongside Burgh despite not belonging to him. The Sewaddle warmed up to Ash after he tried saving its life several times and allowed Ash to capture it. As this was Ash's seventh Pokémon in Unova, he had to initially send back his Pidove to train Sewaddle, although he switched back several episodes later. He used his Sewaddle again in his gym battle with Burgh, and it evolved into Swadloon in battle with Burgh's Whirlipede.

Trivia

  • Its name seems to be a play on "swaddle" (which means to wrap a baby in cloth, which is similar to what Leavanny are described to do to Sewaddle babies) combined with "sew".
