Wario's Woods is a puzzle game that was originally released by Nintendo for the NES. It is known as the last licensed NES game, and it was also the only NES game to receive an ESRB rating, until the ESRB began to rate NES games for the Virtual Console.
Story
The game is set in a forest that was once known as the Peaceful Woods, said to be the home of sprites and other gentle creatures. Wario has taken over these woods and filled them with monsters to turn the place into Wario's Woods. Toad travels to the area and works with the sprites to try and defeat Wario.
Gameplay
In Wario's Woods, characters control Toad, who can pick up monsters and bombs while walking along the bottom of the interior of a tree. By lining up monsters and bombs of the same color, they can be destroyed for points. If the destruction of one row leads to the destruction of other rows, it is called a combo, which earns extra points. Clearing every monster in an area will complete the level, or the player will lose if the area fills to the top with monsters.
The game has several modes. The standard mode is the Round Game mode, where the player goes through a hundred levels of escalating difficulty. That mode contains several boss battles and is where the game's story plays out. It is also divided into A and B modes. There is also Time Race, where players have to accomplish feats within a time limit with three levels of difficulty. The game's other modes are a VS mode, where two players can compete against each other, and a Lesson mode, which teaches players the basics of the gameplay.
