Urban Champion is a fighting game made by Nintendo.

Gameplay

The goal of Urban Champion is for the player to knock his opponent into a manhole. The player has limited time and limited stamina. Both a light punch and a heavy punch is available. The heavy punch does more damage, but the light punch is harder to block. For each punch the player throws, they lose one stamina. Occasionally, a flower pot will fall and the player will lose 5 stamina if they're hit. Every 30 seconds, a police car will drive by, causing the player and his opponent to return to their original positions. If time runs out and no one has won, the police car takes the person who was pushed furthest back.

The game has Mode A and Mode B. Mode A is the single player game. Mode B is 2 Player.

References/Homages

  • In WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, one of 9-Volt's games is based on Urban Champion.
  • Stage 18 in Standard Mode of Tetris DS uses Urban Champion as a backdrop.
  • In the Super Smash Bros. series, the Urban Champion Victory Theme was used at the end of the version of the Famicom Medley used in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and there was a Spirit representing the game in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Masahiro Sakurai has also said that the main character of Urban Champion was one of the characters he considered adding as a playable fighter to represent the NES, but ultimately the Ice Climbers were chosen to fulfill that purpose.
  • It was also among the games featured in the original NES Remix, which presented unique challenges set in excerpts from classic NES games and also mixed elements from the different games.
