Mack is an early boss in Super Mario RPG and the first member of the Smithy Gang to be encountered.

Background

Mack was constructed in Smithy's Factory to serve as one of Smithy's lieutenants. He was a small armored man who rode a pogo stick resembling an upside down knife. Mack attacks the Mushroom castle with a swarm of Shysters and takes it over in search of one of the Star Pieces. Mack and his Shysters were ready to throw a party when Mario's band of adventurers challenged him. Mack was destroyed in the following battle, and the Star Piece was found behind the throne. It is uncertain whether Mack had found the Star Piece and hidden it there, or if it was there the whole time and Mack had just never bothered to check right behind him.

Weaker monochrome "Machine Made" versions of Mack continued to be produced in Smithy's Factory. Additionally, Mack was seen in the ending parade but was likely just an actor in disguise.

Abilities

  • HP: 480, Attack: 22, Defense: 25, Magic Attack: 15, Magic Defense: 20
    • "Boing, boing, boing."

Mack specialized in jumping abilities. He would sometimes disappear for several turns and then leap down from the ceiling. However, he also had fire-based magic in the form of the special abilities Flame and Flame Wall. Mack was weak against Thunder attacks.

Trivia

  • Mack's Japanese name is Kenzooru- a spin off of kendo, an art of fencing. His English name may be a reference to the song "Mack the Knife".
