Debut Pokémon Colosseum

Wes is the player character featured in Pokémon Colosseum, known for his rebellious nature and shady background.

Background

The details of Wes's background are uncertain, but it is implied to be somewhat of a shady past. In the time period leading up to the beginning of Colosseum, he was a member of the criminal organization Team Snagem. However, he leaves them with a stolen Snag Machine and leaves behind a bomb that destroys the Snagem Hideout. He soon makes his way to Phenac Town, where he begins to find hints of a larger conspiracy after defending Rui, a girl with the ability to detect Shadow Pokémon, from members of the organization Cipher.

It is at this point that Wes gains a larger mission, as he travels across Orre with Rui, using his Snag Balls to capture all the Shadow Pokémon that Cipher had distributed to corrupt trainers, and then work towards purifying these Pokémon. They first defeated Miror B. in Pyrite Town, with its mayor Duking giving them his beloved Plusle out of gratitude. They then stopped Dakim from taking over Mt. Battle and taking the Time Flute, receiving it themselves instead. After arriving at Agate Village, Wes gained a method of purifying the Pokémon whose hearts he had opened by summoning Celebi to the Relic Rock there, after saving it from a Cipher attack. Afterwards, Wes and Rui infiltrated The Under and stopped a major port of Shadow Pokémon distribution by defeating Venus.

Although Venus escaped, they were able to learn the location of Cipher's Shadow Pokémon Laboratory. In the storm of the laboratory, they were able to defeat Ein and shut down the creation of Shadow Pokémon, including stealing the data Ein used to create them. Finally, they went to the newly-constructed Realgam Tower and fought the four Cipher admin games, and finally learning the ultimate goal of Cipher as well as their connection to Team Snagem, as Snagem stole the Pokémon which Cipher than corrupted into Shadow Pokémon. As he approached the top of the tower, he was confronted by a vengeful Gonzap (Snagem's leader) and defeated him.

Wes was then forced to take part in the Realgam Tower challenge, winning battles until Cipher's supposed leader Nascour challenged him. Was defeated him, but then he had to face Cipher's true boss, Evice, who was actually Mayor Es Cade from Phenac City. Wes was able to successfully defeat Evice and witnessed his arrest. Afterwards, Wes and Rui continued battling straggling members of Cipher and Team Snagem in order to snag and purify the remaining Shadow Pokémon. His whereabouts afterwards are unknown.

Pokémon Roster

Wes begins the game with an Umbreon and Espeon, and he is implied to have known them for years. Like all Pokémon main characters, the actual Pokémon he obtains in the game are dependent on the player's choices. The only other Pokémon that he is guaranteed to obtain is the Plusle that he receives from Duking (these three Pokémon, along with Ho-Oh, being the only non-Shadow Pokémon obtainable in the game).

Trivia

  • As in the mainstream Gameboy games, Wes is actually named by the player, although Wes is assumed as his canon name due to being the first name listed in the game. His other default names are Seth and Thomas.
  • Wes marks a strange departure from the conventional Pokémon protagonists, due to his rebellious appearance and implied jaded past which sounds more like the traits of a rival character (particularly Silver). His successor in the sequel, Micheal, is more relatively conventional for a player character.
