Maria is a playable unit appearing in Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Tsurugi, Monshou no Nazo and Shadow Dragon.

Book One[edit]
Maria was the youngest daughter of Macedon's king and idolized her siblings Minerva and Michalis. Just before the War of Darkness began, their father was killed (unbenownst to Maria, by Michalis). Michalis then came to Minerva and asked to travel to Dolhr and act as a hostage to protect their people. Maria gladly agreed, thinking of all the lives that would be saved and wanting to please Michalis above all. So she willfully gave herself as a prisoner to the Dolhr Empire and was used to force Minerva into obeying the Empire. All of this came to an end when Marth's army rescued Maria in Chapter 10 (8 SNES). She though Marth looked dashing and forced him to allow her into the Altean army.
Eventually Michalis was struck down in battle and presumed dead in Chapter 22 (17 SNES), but it was later revealed that Maria had found him and nursed him back to health, although it seemed to be her love moreso than her healing magic that saved him. Once the war ended, Maria moved to Khadein and studied magic there, returning to Macedon as a cleric.
Book Two[edit]
Three years later, Maria was abducted suddenly by Gharnef's men along with Elice, Lena and Nyna; the four were to be used as sacrifices to resurrect Medeus as a Shadow Dragon. In the final chapter the four were under Gharnef's hypnotic spell and acted as human shields for Medeus, who would drain their health to replenish his own. However, the spell on Maria could be broken by Minerva, who lied saying that Michalis was alive (when he had just recently died), and Maria was happy that they would be a happy family again. Her reaction to the truth is never seen. Once the war ended, Maria worked at Lena's monastery, where she helped to care for the orphans.
