Chikorita is one of the three starter Pokémon from the second generation games Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal Versions, as well as the remakes HeartGold and SoulSilver.
Information
Chikorita is a small and docile Pokémon that basks in sunlight. The leaf on its head is aromatic and used to check the humidity and temperature in order to seek out warm locations. During battles, it keeps its foes at bay by waving its leaf around and emitting a sweet fragrance that calms the enemy Pokémon and creating a cozier battle atmosphere.
A Chikorita will evolve into Bayleef at Level 16 and then to Meganium at Level 32.
Appearances
Mainstream Games
In Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Chikorita is one of the three starter Pokémon Professor Elm gives out to Gold at the beginning of the game. Additionally in Pokémon: Emerald Version, Professor Birch gives away one of the same three Pokémon to Brendan/May upon completion of the Hoenn Pokédex.
The only other way to obtain Chikorita is by trading it from Pokémon Colosseum or Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness.
Other Games
Chikorita appears in Pokémon Stadium 2 and Pokémon Puzzle Challenge. Chikorita is given as a reward for giving 100 trainers at Mt. Battle in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, and a Shadow version of its evolved form can be captured in Pokémon Colosseum. Chikorita can be found in the Springleaf Field at night in Pokémon Channel. Other Appearances
Video Games
- Chikorita appears in both Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl as one of the Pokémon who can be randomly conjured from the Pokéball item. Chikorita will attack by using Razor Leaf to toss leaves in one direction before disappearing. In both games Chikorita also appears as a trophy, and a sticker of Chikorita is available in Brawl.
Other Media
- Within the Pokémon anime, Chikorita first appears early in the Johto episodes where it is the starter Pokémon of a young trainer named Casey. The character Vincent is also shown to have a Chikorita as his starter Pokémon, and Ash Ketchum catches his own Chikorita which is known for its high affection for Ash. All of the aforementioned Chikorita eventually evolve.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Chikorita is the last of the three starter Pokémon to get a trainer. It is intended for Crystal but in its stubbornness escapes Elm to find Crystal herself. Chikorita winds up meeting with Crystal, who initially does not want the Chikorita on her team of six until Chikorita was able to prove its worth, at which point she switched away another of her Pokémon for the Chikorita. This Chikorita later evolved into Bayleef while protecing Crystal from a Tyranitar.
