Playable Characters
Temporary Teammates
- Eve
- Eve was a special robot that was designed by George to watch over Ninten. It was located in a secret lab located under the lake at Mt. Itoi. The lab exploded after Ninten and his friends found Eve, but it was able to help them escape and then accompanied the party in the battles at Mt. Itoi. Eve is probably the most powerful character in the game, as it can take out any enemy in one hit (but can only hit one enemy at a time) and could not be destroyed by regular enemies. As they progressed up the mountain, Eve's final battle wound up being against the robot R7038XX. R7038XX was able to destroy Eve, but Eve's explosion wound up taking R7038XX down with it. Afterwards, Eve's remains played the seventh melody for Ninten and his friends.
- Flying Men
- A group of five brothers based in Magiciant that are all birdmen. They claim to be destined to serve Ninten, and one of them will join Ninten's party for the remainder of his time in Magiciant. If a Flying Man died in battle, this was permanent and his tombstone would appear outside the Flying Men's house. Whenever one Flying Man died, one of the remaining brothers would volunteer to join Ninten in order to avenge his brother's death the next time he visited the house.
- Pippi
- Pippi was an adventurous young girl living in a house near Podunk. At the beginning of the game, she had run away from home to explore the cemetary near Podunk and wound up being trapped in a crypt there. Ninten rescued her, and she then joined his party temporarily while he escorted her to the mayor of Podunk. She also called Ninten cute and asked him two questions. If he answered properly, she gave him a Franklin Badge. Pippi was returned home, but later in the game ran away again to help Ninten. She inhabited a house within the dangerous swamp and allowed Ninten's party to spend the night to regain their health.
Boss Characters
- R7037
- A powerful robot who guards the ruins in the Yarna Desert. He can be destroyed with ease if the players are riding the tank.
- R7038
- A modified version of R7037 that attacks the group at Mt. Itoi's summit when they are staying in the inn. The party is no match for it and will be defeated, but then Lloyd returns in a tank to destroy it. Despite this, the robot was able to wound Teddy enough to leave him out of action for the rest of the game.
- R7038XX
- The final modified version of the robot that appears near the peak of Mt. Itoi. It attacks them when Eve is Ninten's party and exclusively focuses its attacks on Eve. Eve was destroyed in the battle, but its explosion destroyed R7038XX at the same time.
- Dragon
- A sleeping dragon living in Magiciant's Crystal Cavern. It awakened when Ninten surpassed Level 25 and would then battle him as a test. If Ninten was successful in defeating the dragon, it taught him one of the eight melodies.
- Giygas
- The alien invader who appears as the main villain of the game. Apparently Giygas was raised by George and Maria, with the latter showing him strong love, although he had to suppress these emotions to invade Earth. He is battled atop Mt Itoi and offers to let Ninten join him until he refuses. The party defeats him by repeatedly singing Maria's lullaby to him until it drives him away, and he retreats in the mothership.
Minor Characters
- Abbott
- The assistant to Podunk's mayor. After Ninten saved Pippi, Abbott would distribute zoo keys to Ninten for his next task at the mayor's orders (offering endless amounts of them, saying that zoo keys are "a dime a dozen").
- Able
- One of the assistants to the eccentric scientist living on the island off Ellay's coast. Like the scientist, he craved Strawberry Tofu and would give Swear Words in exchange (while the scientist instead gave Words of Love).
- Ana's Dad
- The father of Ana, who lives in the chateau at Snowman with Ana. He admits that Ana is not a brave girl, but that she is also kindhearted and has secret strength. After Ana joined Ninten's party, he continued to look after them and healed them whenever they arrived. Their family was reunited at the end of the game.
- Ana's Mom
- Ana's mother was among the various parents who were abducted by Giygas and held within tanks in a cave at Mt. Itoi's peak. They were freed at the end of the game following Giygas's retreat, and she was reunited with her family.
- Baker
- The other assistant of the island's scientist. Like the scientist and Able, he desired Strawberry Tofu. In exchange, he told them about a rumor he heard about a robot living in a lake at Mt. Itoi (which was in fact Eve).
- Forgotten Man
- An existential man living at the end of the Crystal Caven in Magiciant, guarding the exit to the real world. He has isolated himself from the world due to being forgotten by everyone he has ever known, but he wants no sympathy from anyone. In order to leave Magiciant, Ninten had to repeatedly talk to his rantings about his loneliness, then say that he is not a forgotten man as well. In the end, he asks Ninten to ignore him, and if he agrees, then the forgotten man disappears.
- The Garricksons
- One of the family whose parents were abducted, with the children (a boy, a girl and a baby) residing in Youngtown. The brother's name was Tom and was the type of person who liked introducing himself. The baby had special psychic powers, and if Ninten used telepathy to communicate with him, he taught Ninten how to Teleport. At the end of the game, all of the missing Youngtown parents were freed, and all the families were reunited.
- George
- The great grandfather of Ninten who is an important part of the game's backstory. In the early 1900s, he and his wife Maria (then a young couple), were abducted by an alien race and forced to raise the infant Giygas. It is unknown if George formed a bond with the alien, but he was eventually caught stealing information from the aliens to use against them, which led to George being dumped back on Earth, but Maria never returned home. Afterwards, George isolated himself and committed himself to the study of PSI powers, and he also built the robot Eve to protect Ninten in the future. He eventually died, but it seems to be his essence that talks to Ninten from a tombstone at the top of Mt. Itoi and teaches him the final melody.
- Laura
- Laura is one of the talking chickens living at Canarytown. She is missing her baby chick, which wound up at the department store in Podunk. If Ninten returned the canary to her, she thanked Ninten by singing one of the eight melodies to him.
- Lloyd's Dad
- Lloyd's father who makes a brief appearance and like his son, has a penchant for hiding in garbage cans. He is found in a garbage can near a house in the swamp and will ask to speak with the player to tell them to take care of Lloyd despite his being a weakling. This is the point where the player can enter their name. He never comes out of the garbage can, so he is never truly seen.
- Maria
- The great grandmother of Ninten. In the early 1900s, George and Maria (then a young couple) were abducted by aliens and forced to raise the infant Giygas. However, Maria appreciated the task and came to love Giygas as a son, even singing to him a lullaby. However, George was sent back to Earth after betraying them and Maria apparently stayed behind. It is not made clear, but it seems Maria died eventually, but her subconscious formed the world of Magiciant based on her childhood dreams. There she was known as "Queen Mary" and had no memory of her prior life or her lullaby. When Ninten gathered all eight melodies of the lullaby and sang them to Queen Mary, she remembered everything and was ready to pass on (presumably to the afterlife), briefly telling Ninten about the lullaby before she (and Magicant with her) disappeared.
- Mr. Mayor
- The mayor of Podunk, who wants to look like a hero as re-election approaches. He sends Ninten off to find the missing Pippi, so that he could take credit for her rescue. He then had his assistant, Abbott, give Ninten a zoo key to take care of the problems at the zoo. After Ninten solved this problem as well, the mayor rescinded his curfew, which allowed Ninten to access new areas.
- Mick
- Ninten's pet dog, whom he can communicate with through telepathy. At the beginning of the game, talking with him will allow Ninten to find the basement key at his doghouse. According to supplementary material, he is actual older than Ninten (similar to King).
- Mimmie
- One of Ninten's younger twin sisters. In the beginning of the game, they panic when things in their house start coming back to life, until Ninten defeats the possessed objects, and they reward him with orange juice.
- Minnie
- One of Ninten's younger twin sisters. In the beginning of the game, they panic when things in their house start coming back to life, until Ninten defeats the possessed objects, and they reward him with orange juice.
- Ninten's Dad
- Ninten's father, who always seems to be away on business. Ninten can call him from any phone to save his game, and he will also deposit money in Ninten's bank account (as well as keeping track of the party's experience). He asks the player's name if they call from the phone in Snowman and asks the player to take care of Ninten. At the end of the game, he is seen from behind trying to call from a payphone (but not getting an answer) while trying to warn Ninten (or whoever he was calling) about something big that had come up.
- Ninten's Mom
- Ninten's mother who stays at home taking care of Minnie and Mimmie. She makes Ninten his favorite food and lets him rest whenever he visits. She welcomed Ninten back home at the end of the game, but could not believe that he was not hungry.
- Pippi's Mom
- The worriful mother of Pippi who lives in a house near Podunk, and first asks Ninten to find her missing daughter.
- Ms. Rosemary
- One of the apparently creepy Rosemary family who own the haunted mansion. After Ninten defeated most of the mansion's ghosts, she claimed that she renamed her son, Buggerror Rosemary, after Ninten.
