Lloyd (alternately translated as Loid) is the second main character of the party in Mother.

Background

Lloyd was an intellectual youth who attended Twinkle Elementary School in Merrysville, his presumed hometown. He was an inventor with an affinity for explosives, which led him to steal some from the school. However, he was also bullied by the other kids and did not seem to have any friends, leading him to develop antisocial tendencies and spend most of his time hiding in a trash can. In fact, Ninten met Lloyd when he was hiding within a trash can on the school's roof. He befriended Ninten after seeing how cool he was for having bottle rockets and invited him to his lab where he tried to make more bottle rockets, although that experiment literally blew up in his face (as well as Ninten's) and wrecked the school lab. However, he joined Ninten's party with the suggestion that they travel to the Duncan Factory due to the rumors of an incredible rocket being made there. They eventually found the rocket and use it to destroy the rubble that blocked off the railroad, which opened up new locations for their adventure.

As they traveled further, they also briefly met Lloyd's father, who also had a tendency for hiding in trash cans. He never emerged from his trash can, however, and so almost nothing about him was revealed. Lloyd's father simply called out to the player, apparently having been in contact with Ninten's dad, asking the player to take good care of Lloyd even though he was a weakling. The group later arrived in Ellay, where they wound up performing a live show at a club that attracted the attention of local gang leader Teddy. Teddy offered to join their group but convinced them to leave Lloyd behind at the club because of how weak he was. Lloyd later commandeered a tank to rescue Ninten and company from the R7038 robot on Mt. Itoi, succeeding in destroying the robot. Teddy was too injured to continue fighting, so Lloyd rejoined in his place, ready to prove himself again. Upon their return to Mt. Itoi, Lloyd was able to repair a motorboat so that they could progress further.

In the end, Lloyd was able to help Ninten and Ana to bring down Giygas. He returned to Twinkle Elementary afterwards and was greeted as a hero.

• In the Super Smash Bros. series, Lloyd has been represented as a sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and as an Ace-rank Primary Spirit (with the bonus effect of boosting electric attack power) in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. When fought in a Spirit battle, he possessed a Villager and fought alongside ROB in a stamina battle where Bob-Ombs periodically rained down on the battlefield.

Trivia

• He is somewhat physically similar to Jeff from the sequel (but not nearly to the extent that Ninten resembles Ness), although they are most similar in their roles as the group's technical experts with no PSI powers and an affinity for bottle rockets.
